Recommendations for a sling for feeding - please!

I am due to have dd2 at end of Jan/Beg of Feb when dd1 will be nearly 16 months.

I would like to bf for a longer period of time than I did with dd1 (managed 10 weeks), however, I am concerned about how easy this will be with a toddler roaming around and trying to eat catfood etc whilst I try to bf.

Have been advised to get a sling so can be 'hands-free' and be more mobile to chase after dd1 - so has anyone got any recommendations. I have a babybjorn but tbh I didn't use it much with dd1 - and never for feeding.

Heard the Mayawrap is supposed to be good? Any views gratefully received.

Thanks

i have a maya ring sling which is good for feeding, and also a wrap sling, bit trickier to tie up, but you canalso breastfeed baby in it. i have breastfed dd3 in both when she was younger, once walking round a car boot sale.

Hi Hotmama
I carried Dd almost everywhere all day long for the first 16 weeks of her life - habit and choice! I also bf her until she was 7 months
I only once bf her in a sling as tbh I personally found it impossible and not comfy - much easier to sit down and concentrate on feeding
BTW ds was 33 months when dd was born.

I had a wilkinet and a huggababy and found both had their uses depending on my and dds mood!!!
Still use huggababy almost daily for cuddles etc

HTH

Any more recommendations.

I'm thinking it will be easy to bf using a sling - right/wrong?

the other one i had (forgot the name yesterday) was a moby. it is very easy to feed using a sling once you get used to it. the moby offered more support and i was more hands free with it, the maya ring sling i was worried about her wiggling too much, buts it a nice easy sling for about town, just slip it on and pop the baby in.

I like the Huggababy - it's simple, comfortable and strong. Very easy to feed discreetly, once sat in a posh restaurant with ds slurping away and no-one any the wiser. I was also able to carry him on the hip using it until he weighed about 2 stone. A homegrown British product, too, if that appeals to you.

i couldnt afdford a huggababy, so i got the moby, its about half the price.

My sling is like the maya wrap ring one... Not used it yet though, so no firsthand experience, but my friend uses a similar one, and loves it.

You could maybe think about a fleece poch, like the Coorie

Pouches are great for littlies, and the fleece will be cosy for a winter baby.

hotmama I think we are stalking each other today, I was thinking the exact same thing today "must get a sling for DD2 I can breastfeed in"

I'm also thinking of cbeebies and a snack whilst feeding.

Will check out the links for slings in a bit too

hotmama1 · 30/11/2005 13:18

Like your idea of snacks and Cbeebies.

It's only when the clock is ticking closer to due date - that you think I've got everything from dd1 etc - and then think s**t I forgot about blah - hope I have remembered the important things.

I used a borrowed Huggababy for baout 9m, and would feed dd in it whenever her feed coincided with ds's meals. I found that I still had to use one hand to position dd, but the sling took all the weight and the other hand was free for feeding ds or doing whatever other multi-tasking necessary.

Afterwards I got a basic Coorie, which I used for everything, including bfing (but that was when dd was a lot older).

I found bfs a good time to sit down on the sofa with ds and read to him, or play simple talking-with-his-bears-type games. Before dd was born I got ds into the habit of sitting next to me (rather than in my lap) and holding the book we were reading. I would put the book on a cushion on his lap. That way, it wasn't any different really to how we read after dd was born.

So it's between the huggababy, the maya ring sling and the moby one?

Sorry to butt in but this is something i've been thinking about too!
