No practical advise sorry, i live in rented and landlord won;'t let us have a new kitchen.

u could have look at B&Q online and they will help plan it for you, u just need to measure ish your walls. i think that they price up ur choice at the end too

homebase good .. and b&q .. both design for you
although I spent ages designing and redesigning until it was completely right

then wait for special sales days

you don't have to get worktop at same place so can shop around if you want

don't forget to add in painting / tiling / flooring / lighting to budget

get an independent company to fit it though

Not magnet. They are the spawn of Satan. Would gleefully torch the local showroom.
Bad, bad, bad, bad experience of the whole thing and totally incompetent fitters. Ruined the whole potential loveliness of my new kitchen and I still hate it almost 2 years on.
Would suggest that if you know of any local builders/joiners you use them and not the ones supplied by the kitchen company....

Have you thought about Ikea? (don't know how far from a store you are...) We are looking for a new kitchen but can't afford too much and Ikea's range looks really good in the store.

tallulah · 28/11/2005 16:50

We've just bought a kitchen from MFI. It was a bit cheaper than we'd budgeted for and (so far) is going in OK. DH is putting it in himself & TBH if you can afford it I suggest you get someone in. We have had no sink for 3 weeks and no hob for 2. We had no oven for 3 weeks- it is hell!

thanks everyone. Great advice. My friend's husband is a kitchen fitter so I will def be asking him to do the work. Cheers.

Go for an ikea kitchen, but then get a worktop (and appliances) elsewhere.... ikea kitchens are so cheap (and they are good value for money), and then you'll have a bit of ££ left over for a decent worktop (and, toptip, get your handles somewhere else and it will look less "ikea"...)

Good tip
