A cheap but GOOD vacuum cleaner - does it exist?

Only have one rug, stairs and landing and big bedroom to hoover. I'm lazy so can't (and don't want to) justify a Miele/Dyson etc which I'm sure are very good. But of the cheapies, are there any which are pretty good? Is bagged better than bagless?

Thanks

HENRY!

GeorginaA · 27/11/2005 16:38

Honestly, Henry's are fab on carpet or hard floors, mine has far better suction than my old Panasonic upright did even at its best, it's reliable, it's cheap, the kids are eager to have a go, and best of all it's got a cheeky grin - what more could you ask for?!

How much are Henrys ???

Have a lightweight cylinder Electrolux Boss which was about £50 a few years back. Has several tools and quite powerful but has a tendency to overheat. Good on hard floors and carpets.

vickiyumyum · 27/11/2005 16:50

have got a new lg bagless hoover that is currently on offer for £149.99 in comet, it works much better than a dyson, and is a nicer colour

vickiyumyum · 27/11/2005 16:51

forgot to add, we have wooden flooring downstairs and carpet on stairs and upstairs and it has 2 different settings for hard floor and carpet, plus then adjustable front bit.

it works well on hoovering out the car too.

charlietherednosedpussy · 27/11/2005 17:04

I have {http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000C79QY/kelkoo-2004-handg-21/ref%3Dnosim/026-8102671-8215604\this hoover} Had had for about 18-24 months. its great...it sucks the carpet off the floor, its sucks everything off the laminate with scratching it, it bagless and its cheap.

charlietherednosedpussy · 27/11/2005 17:04

this I mean

Bosch - Which? Best Buy - £70.

Tinker · 27/11/2005 18:24

Thanks so far. Hmm, used to have The Boss one - can't remember what happened to it so assume it died. Have a Hoover currently which is crp. My mum had a Bosch - also crp but that one looks much better Jan. Like the look of that Panasonic one and Henrys do get rated by a lot of people. Afraid £149.99 isn't quite what I had in mind for cheap

Would normally not agnst too much but bought the Red Rug from Ikea and it shows every single bit of fluff

I will dig out the more recent Which for you, Tink, but I think they are mostly even dearer.

Is £120 too much? The Miele S571 which a few of us have got (it is FANTASTIC) has been discontinued but you can still get it for that (it used to be cheaper in fact, shurely shome mishtake) but it has been replaced and the replacement is a similar price.

Janh · 27/11/2005 18:45

Just checked online - this Bosch one is still their cheap Best Buy. Miller Bros do it for £77.24 inc delivery.

Tinker · 27/11/2005 18:51

Cheers for your sterling work Jan. Might check out in Jan in sales but Miller Bros looks good.

I've just bought a Henry from Currys. It was £96 or so in store, but when I pointed out it was £84.99 on the website they matched the price without missing a beat. Didn't even have to start waving tenners around.

GeorginaA · 27/11/2005 19:53

Yeah - I found the same frogs - think they're used to it. There's even a particular code or something on the tills they use to drop the price - madness why they didn't just have the same price both places...
