We took ds1(5) and ds2(3) today. They were bored as were a lot of the other kids in the cinema.

There is a lot of dialogue (rather of the ham psychology type) and a lot of chases that get a bit boring after a while. I found it hard to understand a lot of the speech (really am sounding like my mUm).

the Ellen de Generes character is really irritating but the surfer trutle and seagull are great. There are a few funny moments but you have to wait for them.

the animation is superb and the class scenes sre great. There is a sad bit right at the beginning and the shark is scarey.

I can remember my first ever trip to the cinema - Watership Down. I must have been about 4. My mum explained it was like a big TV we were going to watch. I remember a very short programme about some people in wedding clothes (apparently an advert), and then being prodded awake and carried home. Wholw film totally passed me by.

We have just got back from watching this (well at 8pm) and my kids 4 3/4 and 2 3/4 really loved it. I decided to warn them there maybe some scarey bits in it, so i said there were bits like Monsters Inc which they love. Scarey but funny I said. All my 2 yr old said when she came out was that it was Scarey but Funny!! She had sat pretty transfixed throughout most of the film - popcorn helped - although she got a bit tired near the end so sat on my lap. Both wanted cuddles in the scarey (but funny) bits like the sharks, and otherwise adored it. Much better than Piglet the Movie, which bored us all and couldn't keep their attention for 5 mins.

I know I'm really late, but have to post here. In the end took ds2 (4.5) to see this as well in half term. He was utterly terrified for a lot of the film, and spent much of it cuddled in to my jumper. He didn't enjoy it at all, and has subsequently had nightmares about sharks ... not something that's normal for him. I would have taken him out, but I kept assuming it would lighten up and have some happy bits in it. In retrospect of course that was a mistake, and I wish I had taken him out, or preferably not taken him at all.

I am shocked at what the media/parents expose young children to in the name of entertainment.

kmg, I went to see it at halfterm and was horrified at how scary some of it is - hadn't read anything like that in reviews and most comments just said it's great.

I think it's fair to say that all Disney cartoons have at least one terrifying character/scene but this had several - and the noise! Why do they have to have it so loud?

I am sorry about DS2's nightmares - I wonder if it might help to get him a toy Bruce to scale down the monster in his head?

btw, Ghosty and Loobie, re the snowman bit, we have a video (it's called Tiny Toy Stories) of Pixar shorts which includes that and the bouncing baby anglepoise lamp, plus a violent baby bashing its toys, a unicycle dreaming about being in a circus in a bike shop at night, and a thing about a bee - they are called:
Knick-knack
Luxo Jr
Tin Toy
Red's Dream
The Adventures of Andre & Wally B

We've had it ages and I can't find it on Amazon but you might see one somewhere (the snowman is on the front).
