your worktops might burn???

misdee · 25/11/2005 22:23

good point lol.

dishwasher one side which can be moved further under the work top, just one single unit the other side.

Are you sure that isn't height clearance, Misdee, ie the distance between the top of the cooker and the bottom of any wall units?

NotQuiteCockney · 26/11/2005 07:26

We were doing kitchen planning the other day, and apparently they make ovens that are 600mm, 700mm, and 900mm. Your 700mm oven won't fit in a 600mm gap.

misdee · 26/11/2005 08:11

it was 600mm width oven. i just wondering why it says 750mm clearence needed. my gap is 600mm, cooker is 600mm, but currys says 750mm clearence minimum. so am utterly confused.

Like Suedonim says it might be a height clearance

misdee · 26/11/2005 08:18

no idea if its height clearnece, if it is (they have the glass tops on them, as i cant stand cookers without tops) then i can get it. that makes more sense actually.

It's so that you can lift the lid and cook

mummyhill · 26/11/2005 10:08

It is better to have a slight gap either side of the oven for air to circulate otherwise you clould singe your worktops/units. Also if it has a lid that needs to be lifted you need to have full clearance for this as many gas appliances do not work unless the lid is fully raised.

i really wanted to get one of those big range cookers, but no room and can really get that much on credit.

I know those range cookers are fashionable, but how often do most people actually use all that extra space?

misdee · 26/11/2005 11:08

mieow uses her regularly, she has a 900mm indesit one, mind you that is because i go round there a lot and she feeds me and my kids.

at least once a week (when peter is home, less atm) i am struggling for space in my standard cooker.

engineer came to fix ours the other month and ours i wedged in the gap and he said tha there was a recommended gap each side of a free standing cooker to allow air to circulate to keep the oven temp right or something.
