Anyone had Ikea kitchen installed by Ikea?

We're pondering sorting out kitchen, we have decided on Ikea, but were wondering what their installation prices were like
We cannot get over there just now as dp working away and house struck down with tonsilitis and one car in the shop on a recall.
Have priced up the kitchen on the online planner.
Was just wondering what they charge for install?
No appliances etc just cupboards and bench and sink.
TIA

not london, in Lincs. Might get a quote from a builder etc local but was just wondering what the diff would be, ikea are good value for everything else so would imagine it would be competitive?

AGree, IKEA kitchens look fab. Could you not do it yourself? Or is that a idea? "We're" (ie partner) are currentlt installing a B&Q kitchen ourselves. It's not really that difficult - but is messy.

piffle · 24/11/2005 15:02

tinker am trying to get dp to agree to fit it.
There is no appliances, he would not even have to move the dishwasher
Purely cabinets only.
Costed up the kitchen at £1280, dp says if we cn get it under £2k we can have it now
However he has NO time until end of January and tinker how do you manage to fit the worktops dp is very worried about cutting them!
We had B+Q do the kitchen in our old flat in order to sell it, the labour was £3k the kitchen cost £1700
did look fab though.
Am getting quote from local builders too.

Installations started this summer, it's a new thing. One of the girls I worked with does the south London ones (only female carpenter we have though)

Piffle, when I go into IKEA tonight I'll have a look for the kitchen leaflety thing, or ask one of the kitchen people, I'm sure they're in until midnight too. I'll try and post back tomorrow.

piffle · 24/11/2005 15:09

thx both of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

piffle - partner was a bit worried about cutting the worktops too. Lengthwise isn't too bad but he needed to cut out against wall for pipes - looks a little rough round teh edges BUT you can now get upstands which you put at back of worktop, against wall. Looks neater and hides any dodgy edging. Need a jigsaw for cutting out of sink. We're doing this in order to sell house as well.

The thing that I would worry about re IKEA is that you inevitably forget to get something/get teh wrong bit. With B&Q you can nip back easily as they are usually closer and there are more of them. But IKEA tends to be a little less straightforward.

We had the same problem cod, no pipes can run along the back of the units as the back of the unit goes right against the wall. Made ours an absolute nightmare to fit. Also sink trap didn't fit with existing pipes. Got a local joiner to fit ours, 2 days at £100 a day. End result looks really good though and it was a right bargain.

OK, collared one of the kitchen sales people this evening and found out...not much at all really!

She said you will need to take all your kitchen measurements etc into your local store, fill in a form and the installation team will then get back to you (in about a day) with a quote. When pushed she said that very very roughly you can expect to pay the same amount again for the installation as you pay for the kitchen, but it all depends on what needs doing. There will be the facility to submit all these details online, but it's not working yet and they don't know when it will be up and running.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

thanks serenity, I think we'll head over one day int eh next few weeks to ask about it.

We have a local fitter quoting on sunday as well, just for comparison sake
Dp also knows someone who had carpenter build bespoke kitchen for £2.5k so we're lookinginto that as well
Cheers again!
