Need a new oven (please dont all jump on me)

my oven is playing up, it keeps cutting out then the gas comes back on, so the palce stinks of gas, not safe at all. it has done this more and more over the last year or so, did it in the old place a couple of times so i know its not the pipework.

so i need to replace it. like the idea of duel fuel, and prefer gas hobs generally anyway. and recommendations? standard oven, no double huge thingies. oh and as cheap as possible.

Have you got British gas cover? call them out and get them to check it first, it may just be the pipes need cleaning or something.

  • you want to buy an oven that's dispicable

Don't know where to buy - but if you use the oven a lot - having an electric oven is very expensive. Gas much cheaper to run/

misdee · 23/11/2005 17:16

good price but looks very small. god i am fussy. think i'll need to go into stevenage next week to sort one out.

as long as it cooks thats all i need. the reason i prefer elecric oven and gas hob is that when i use the hob i am in the kitchen so can see if it cuts out, the oven i cant see so easily, so if thats electric at least it wont cut out and cause us all to explode. i hope.

have a look on the tesco website , they list whether they are dual fuel, single oven etc. prices look ok.

vickiyumyum · 23/11/2005 18:04

i have agas oven for sale it is a new world one in silver with oven and seperate grill, four rings and a glass lid. it is only about 6 months old, we had to buy a new one as the door fell off our old one, but we are now moving and the new house has a built in oven.

the only prob is i think we live too far away from you to make it work (Reading) as we only want £100 for it and we paid £250 ish.

failing that when i was looking i thought the prices in argos were very good.

misdee · 23/11/2005 18:06

too far away.

its cheaper to just buy a gas one, so am re-considering the duel fuel thing.

misdee have you had the gas checked? it may just be a problem with your pipes/supply issue or somethig.... get it checked first. you don't want to buy a new oven and then find out you still have the same problem!

misdee · 23/11/2005 18:22

i'll get the council in, tho only just had annual check.

Hi misdee, all new ones should have failsafe thermocouples on the hob burners, so if for some reason the supply gets interrupted, a flame blown out, etc. etc. it will cut the supply to that burner so that it doesn't leak and subsequently cause your abode to go bang.

HTH

PS - it might even be worth checking from someone proper (ie not me) that your oven doesn't have these thingies which aren't functioning IYSWIM... but I acknowledge getting the diagnosis / repair may cost as much as a new oven, LOL !

We have a Scandinova (double duel fuel oven) too from Comet. Has been pretty good and excellent value for money, but the lower oven door has always required a certain degree of force to pull open. Last week I accidently pulled the top oven door open with the same force I need for the bottom one and oops - darn thing came off in my hand! Man coming tomorrow to quote me to fix it - hope it's not too much. Transfers do wear off though, but otherwise a good enough oven for the money.

Aero · 24/11/2005 23:41

All fixed to the tune of £45 for about 10 minutes work . I could do with a job like that!! Having said that, he was a nice chap and he had the part needed in his van and he fixed both doors, so much better than paying £450 for a new oven the same.
