Thanks

Dh wants a new 3 wood for Christmas. I actually just shrugged it off so he doesn't actually think I'd buy him one.

However if I do get him one, does anyone here have any recommendations?

Could go to a club house shop and ask there but I am fully aware how i may well get ripped off big style seeing as I don't really know what i want. So looking for any recommendations before I go.

Thanks again.

Nevada Bobs is a good shop if you have one nearby

Hulababy · 21/11/2005 16:09

Ah I remember that site - used to be on my favourites list on the old machine - Dh must have put it there. Thank you.

Do you have an American Golf discount centre near you? My dh goes here and says they are the cheapest place in the UK.

Do you think vouchers might be better for him? I think golf clubs are quite personal aren't they? Don't they need to hold them and swing with them to see how they feel?

Hulababy · 21/11/2005 16:20

I think we do have one of those yes.

Not sure. His dad bought his last club for him - from the site linked too earlier - so not sure.

my dh plays golf, he actually buys quite a few bits and pieces off ebay. i know it takes the suprise element away from things, but if you are like myself and know zilch about golf, then its a good idea to just ask him outright!! i find most gifts which require husbands prior knowledge or expertise are still very well received after they have "gone away to santa" eg wrapped up!! he would rather have something which he knows is useful and that he would use sometimes, rather than the "golfing gifts" his family seem to buy him, eg golf tool set, golf note book, golfing diary etc etc

btw, when it comes to brands his big fave is ping zing. As i say, means jack to me!

I have sent e-mails to his dad and his brother too now

I have heard of these makes - I must take somthing in when Dh is waffling on at me. LOL!

My dp plays golf, but like you i know zilch about it too.

I know he brought a set of golf clubs from Navada bobs and one of the ends flew off He got a refund luckily cause they were very expensive golf clubs so he just does not rate navada's.

He uses American discount as found one of those nearer to home and finds the quality and price is alot lot better.

I agree with the talor made golf clubs bit but i will ask him about 3 woods when he gets home and see what he says and thinks.

Like someone else has said they come in all different lengths, sizes etc so you may find it hard to get what he wants but you could take one of his golf clubs he has now that he uses into the shop for the size?

Hula- DH and I both play golf. Last year for Christmas I wanted to get him a new set of clubs, and I just got him a gift certificate (do you call that a voucher?). Clubs are such and individual thing, personal preference of brand, etc. I also wanted him to be able to test them out and have them fitted, which is a good idea.

I personally would stay away from e-bay. They've been finding that a good portion of their clubs, especially the ones with "bargain" prices are counterfeits, and have been starting to cancel many auctions dealing with golf clubs lately because they've gotten so many complaints, but can't keep up with all the fradulent buyers.

American golf centers might be cheaper, but if they're importing them from here, it would probably be a different club. Most high-end club manufacturers make 3 different versions of the same club-American, European and Asian. The Asian version is for smaller-built men with slower swing speeds, and the American and European version differ in that the European version is designed for the links-style courses that predominate there, where we don't have many links courses here.

Wasn't going to use ebay when spending so much money anyway

Just remembered he plays regularly with a friend who lives round corner, and has tested out some of his clubs before - friend has several . Will have to give him a ring!

dh just come in.......he says if you dont really know what you are doing (in nicest sense!) stay away golf shops and ebay, but try American golf discount. He says that is where he would send me if i was intent on trying to suprise him!

Hulababy · 21/11/2005 17:20

Cheers!

I did think going to a club house shop would cost me a fortune!
