Hi - I need a new pushcahir to cope with fairly rugged and beach terrain. Which would you choose?
I'm presuming a three wheeler would be best.

our macleren doesnt work at all on sand

three-wheeler is really good

you need to fix the wheels too

gingerbear · 20/11/2005 20:49

A Hovercraft?

gingerbear · 20/11/2005 20:50

Sorry, but I would opt for a back carrier like a bushbaby rather than a pushchair.

LIZS · 20/11/2005 20:53

I don't think any really do soft sand well tbh, most end up being tipped onto 2 wheels and dragged ! If you must, try a 3 wheeler with large pneumatic tyres, and a front wheel which can be fixed - swivels are useless whatever size. Same goes for snow.

the mountain buggy terrain is good at coping with most terrain, but is fairly expensive, although sometimes you can pick up secondhand ones cheaper in the freeads (not ebay as they still fetch almost new prices)

iused my mountainbuggy urban (lockable swivel wheel) on the beach at brighton and on the sand in cornwall and with the wheel locked it coped fine, but if it was going to be regular off road use i would go for the terrain.

wheelbarrow

NannyL · 20/11/2005 22:42

we got the mountain buggy and its great.... works on anything

oh and we have a beach at the bottom of the garden and it copes with that fine! (even with a buggy board on the back!)

swedishmum · 20/11/2005 23:13

My 3 wheeler works, but the little buggy needs dragging therefore no good. My 3 wheeler's a Quinny - works quite well on everything.

BadHair · 20/11/2005 23:17

I have an ancient Urban Detour which is great on beach and just about anywhere. Graco travel system pushchair and little buggy were crap.

The buga boo is especially designed for sand.

It has the option of being on 2 wheels only making it infinitley easy to push over sand, designed esp that way for sand.

Also has the normal 4 wheel option and is very fashionable and expensive!

Gwyneth Paltrow uses one for Apple i believe!

nightowl · 20/11/2005 23:33

wow.. they make buggies to work on sand? so not everyone just tips it and walks backwards then?

hub2dee · 20/11/2005 23:41

The Mountain Buggy web sites are full of people walking and jogging with their MBs on sand,

nightowl · 21/11/2005 00:44

just have this image now of power mothers up at 6am, jogging along the sand complete with buggy, all muscular and toned with headphones on..before going to some high powered job. (although i admit to complaining last week when our reasonably new buggy seemed destined not to navigate a gravel bike track). i only bought it for good looks though as i am shallow, i wash it and polish it every week..im hoping when i can drive i will be able to transfer this attention to my car instead.

There was a thread a while ago that had a trailer thing with a very long handle, designed to be pulled over difficult terrain. I'll see if I can find it.

BTW I think I read somewhere (possibly on MN) that Gwinny's nanny hated the Bugaboo so much that they had to buy something different.
