What's the Quinny Zapp really like?

I am trying to convince my normally very rational friend NOT to buy one! To me, they look flimsy and uncomfortable, but admittedly I haven't had a proper look. Her ds is 19 months, so is quite big for it, I would have thought? She needs it just to put in her car, and I can see that it is attractive for that as it folds so small, but no shopping basket?! That would drive me mental! So, whats your opinion, good or bad? Thanks a lot x x

oooh one of my favourite subjects - bought one of these about a month ago and love it BUT dd is 9 months old and the older children I've seen in one look a bit odd. Its not at all flimsy though - the design of it is fab and I really don't think its uncomfortable for dd - we bought a triumph for her and that WAS uncomfortable, she was really slouched. I guess it depends what your child is like but dd loves sitting up and seeign everything and it pushes like a dream.

The lack of shopping basket is a pain though tbh but I also have a peamette which I use if I want to do loads of shopping. Mind you went shopping the other day and managed ot get quite a few bags hanging off it complete with changing bag and it didn't even tip over when I took dd out unlike the Mac.....

Hazellnut · 19/11/2005 22:15

Oh and DH really didn't like them, hence why we got the Mac but he loves it now !! The footmuff is ace in this weather - like a huge sleeping bag !!

roosmum · 19/11/2005 22:17

yep i'll second hazellnut (hellooo HN!)

zapps rock (we have been known to chant over on the feb 05 thread)!

littlelamb · 19/11/2005 22:19

Thanks. I suppose the thing to do is for her to go and try her ds in one. She has a quest right now, I think, its definately a maclaren anyway, and her ds will happily sit upright in that to sleep, especially if the basket is so full it WONT recline! I'm still not sure though, it looks a bit too wierd for me!

But honestly, what little niggles do you have? Or are they really that perfect . My friend is a student like me, and I don't want her to regret spending money on something as expensive as a buggy.

OP posts:
roosmum · 19/11/2005 22:24

niggles...um they're too expensive! footmuff is lovely lovely, but 40 quid...

what abt a 2nd hand one on ebay? misdee just sold one.
really have no probs with it, except that it's not as nice a ride as 3-wheeler with pneumatic tyres, but that would go for any buggy.

Hazellnut · 19/11/2005 22:26

No niggles here yet - but I am may be in the first flush of love !! I now ALWAYS choose the Zapp to take out unless I know I am getting loads of heavy shopping so that would be the biggest prob - the basket (or lack of !)

But it is beautiful and such a dream to push ....

(ask me again in a couple of months just in case I see the reality by then !! I really think they a re a love or hate thing though !

Hazellnut · 19/11/2005 22:27

( BTW - yoo hoo roosmoo)

littlelamb · 19/11/2005 22:28

I think her main criteria are just something small, and that won't take up too much room in the car, as she goes home each weekend and inly has a tiny car. I guess based on this it might be a good choice. But she asked my opinion and I said I thought it was ugly But now I can see the practical side I am quite looking forward to going with her and having a push!

OP posts:
starlover · 19/11/2005 22:30

littlelamb i think it's ugly too!!!

ooh it did get heated on that feb thread! lol

actually though, i have to admit it is KIND of growing on me, although i think that bigger children look odd in them, like they're about to fall out!

ther is no way i could do without a shopping basket or ability to recline though!

Hazellnut · 19/11/2005 22:32

Don't listen to starlover - she doesn't know waht she's talking about - she'll talk you into one that needs a crane to lift it....

Seriously though - get her to go and try one and then maybe pick one up second hand if she likes it (or from pramworld - they are a bit cheaper !)

misdee · 19/11/2005 22:32

it is lovely to push and took up hardly any room in my car (matiz so is teeny) but i do a lot of shopping on foot and found it not suitable for that. dd3 is only 9months and teeny so was lost in the seat, and doesnt like her car seat. each time i used it as atravel system she screamed. she screams in her car seat anyway. i sold it and bought a maclaren ryder which is lovely but does take all of my boot space up.

littlelamb · 19/11/2005 22:35

I was waiting for you to show up misdee! Thanks for the honesty! It has just occured to me that if she DOES buy one, I may be able to borrow it for my trip home on the train ooo I think I may be turning into the devil on her shoulder, and start egging her on!

OP posts:
misdee · 19/11/2005 22:37

it is heavy i found for a small buggy, well it seems heavy in the travel bag. i did love the way it all went into the bag as well.

roosmum · 19/11/2005 22:42

it is stupidly small when folded - ie i have a 106 & if put in the boot, zapp crashes from side to side!
which is better than 3-wheeler - fills the boot completely, shopping on back seat etc.
zapp really does fit in footwell IME.

(hiya HN & SL, gotta go to bed!)

SugaPlum · 19/11/2005 22:44

I saw someone pushing their child in one of these the other day and tbh i thought it was kinda odd (the child was rather big) and it sounded really cheap. Are the wheels plastic? I can't stand the sound of rattling wheels on concrete.
Put that aside tho i think i'd buy one if my car was tiny and it wasn't the main pushchair lol.

Pixiefish · 19/11/2005 22:50

I have one and it's great for dd who is 22 months. Its really light for when she wants to walk so i can push the Zapp and hold her hand easily.
Looks good, light to fold and is great for popping out and about.

The downside.
no shopping basket and tips easily if you put any real weight on the handles ( couple of bags of shopping i mean)
no recline so uncomfy if they fall asleep in it.
not very stable at mounting kerb at an angle (but 3 wheelers generally arent)
no use at all on country walks with no pavement.

Having said all that i still love mine. if she's going to buy one the glasgow pram center do it for 120 pounds incl delivery- cheapest i've seen

Hazellnut · 20/11/2005 11:10

think pramworld are doing some colours for £110....

littlelamb · 23/11/2005 20:57

Well we went to look at one today, and her ds actually looked really comfy, and we liked the look of the cosytoes too. BUT one thing stopped my friend buying it there and then. There is absolutely NO tread on the wheels. Do you find this a problem? We thought with the weather being icy this might be a bit dangerous, and I could see that it might be a little hard to control. Are we just overreacting? Other than that, we were both very impressed.

OP posts:
JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 23/11/2005 21:11

I WANT ONE!

DH wont let me though - told me ive got to wait until Jessica doesnt need a buggy - all fine and well but she's only 16 months! GRRRRRRRRRRRR

piffle · 23/11/2005 21:16

My dd is 3 albeit quite small and I love it!
Shopping bah have you never heard of the internet LOL
I use a net bag for essential and as I use from car to shop - shop to car it is no porblem at all, why only the other I balanced a duvet from the dry cleaners on the hood!
With the cold snap, I really am plumping for a foot muff though.
It is super buggy for town and around, I'd not use it to walk miles not over harsh ground, but for the car it's super dooper.
