Jane Indy Plus carseat - anyone got one?

I've just got one. Finally got it attached to the Isofix connectors in the car. Now, how do I make is recline? The instructions say, lift the handle and pull. But it doesn't do anything. What am I missing?

Never managed to figure it out! DS is 4 so hasn't been a issue for us.

They are great car seats but fiddlier than I thought!

Sorry - doesn't help much!

I've managed it once but I don't know what I did, and I can't do it again.

It is a bit tricker and much easier to do if the child is NOT int he seat. You do just lift handle and pull. But you then have to be very careful putting the child in so as not to knock it back again.

TBH I don't bother.

Hmm, may take it out of the car then and see if something is jammed somewhere. DH has been hauling on the handle for all he is worth and can't shift it!

We have this seat for our dd (3) and I find it OK to recine as long as she is in the seat and I have not done up the seatbelt yet. Bit of a pain if she falls asleep in transit as I have to stop, run round undo belt, tip seat, redo belt and get back in - a without waking her!!

Great seat though.

fruitful · 20/11/2005 11:05

Tyakit - so you do just lift the handle and pull the seat forward then?

Do you feel your ds/dd is safe and secure in it ? Considering one for dd who is a light 4 yr old - either this or a Britax Elite as she won't be 15kg for a while yet. Feel this one would potentially last her longer.

fruitful · 20/11/2005 16:11

Yes. We only got it this week so haven't used it a lot. But we got it because dd (3.5y) won't be 15kg till she is nearly 5. So we either needed to buy a new 9mo-4yo seat for ds (who is 9mo and outgrowing the infant carseat), or get this one for dd. Its the only one we found that is a booster seat type using the adult belt, but fits dd's size/weight. There is a low slot for the belt to feed through so it comes just above her shoulder. And the sides of the seat can be adjusted in to the right width. She says it is comfy.

The isofix things aren't that easy to fit but I think we probably just need to get the hang of it. Jane instructions are not the best, to put it mildly!

We're about to tackle the recline thingy now...

Right. Instructions on how to recline this seat, for anyone who searches on this in the future...

Look at the back of the seat part. In between the two parts of the seat, on the right-hand side, is a small square of plastic fastened on with two screws. Its got a press-down button on it. This is what stops the seat reclining easily. It needs pressure on the seat to push it in and get the seat out of the bolt-upright position.

So, we've taken it off. The seat will now move easily out of the upright position (if you lift and pull the handle as stated in the instructions). Presumably the button is intended to stop the seat being reclined accidentally. But once the seat is in the middle or lower position the button doesn't do anything anyway, and we're going to need it in the middle position. In our car (Honda CR-V) the totally upright position is no good - the angle between the seat and the back is less than 90 degrees. So we've got to recline it to get it upright...

Oh well. We'll see how it goes. May have to resort to gaffa tape yet.

We've had the Jane for just under a year now. DD was under 3yo when we go it and it suits us well. DD sleeps happily in it on longer journeys at night without the recline, and inds the chair comfortable.

We find the Isofix bits fine to fit, but we have had the Vitax Duo Isofix for a few years too, so used to fitting them.

fruitful · 21/11/2005 13:00

I think the problem with the Isofix is that the car seat cushion is too springy and pushes the fittings up into the wrong place before you can get them fixed. Nothing wrong with the actual seat mechanism. I think its the car bit that makes it difficult!

Anyway, seat is working fine today, reclined and staying there. Phew.

Is there much difference between the Indy and Indy Plus ?

Hulababy · 21/11/2005 16:53

The Indy isn't isofix I don't think.

Hulababy · 21/11/2005 16:54

There you go:

The additional features of the Jane Indy Plus are:

  • Isofix Car fitting system
  • adjustable armrests
  • 3 position backrest.

Thanks
