I mean, what could be duller than spending hours hunched over your computer? (Unless it's MN of course...)

Also,is there away to attach them to one's person when in the gym?

Cheers.

You can buy things to put them in with either clips or shoulder straps. I never dowloaded the music, jsut copied my cds onto it. Sat their with a stack while mnetting - it isn't that bad.

EnidEatsPeasWithACocktailStick · 18/11/2005 13:59

yes you can get a pack with a clip

get a friend who has one to copy theirs onto yours

LilacBump · 18/11/2005 13:59

my ipod mini came with a clip, but you get ones like an armband which the ipod attaches to.

and once you have all your cds copied into itunes, it doesn't take long to put it on the ipod.

moondog · 18/11/2005 14:00

Eh?

You've lost me.

Friend's one???

I want my own toons!

(It doesn't jump when you jiggle about does it??)

no, they don't jump.

LilacBump · 18/11/2005 14:03

mine has never jumped.

you can't copy off an ipod, unless you download a little bit of software for it.

moondog · 18/11/2005 14:05

Ideally I would write a list of songs (I only want it to relieve tedium of gym)out, give it to someone and it would come back sorted.

What is itunes? A whole virtual library? Is most stuff on there?

Also is there an iPod with a smaller capacity?

moondog, you probably want an ipod nano. Very small, very cute.

The easiest way to get your tunes is just take copies of your CDs. It's really easy, you just keep popping them in the drive, and then the computer puts the songs on your iPod. Not really a lot of work.

That way, you just add new CDs as you want.

They don't skip, because there's no spinning bit to skip, IYSWIM. They're solid state. No moving parts inside, particularly the nanos, which are RAM, not hard drives.

LilacBump · 18/11/2005 14:09

itunes is the software you use to put songs on your ipod or just to play songs with on your pc. it makes it into a big library of songs and you can make playlists. you can also click on the music store and buy songs off there (79p a song, if i remember correctly). you can also burn cds with it.

NotQuiteCockney · 18/11/2005 14:09

Oh, if you just want it for the gym, not as a more portable music thing (which is good with travel ...), then even an iPod shuffle could work. I don't have one, but I think they only play songs in random order. They're tiny.

moondog · 18/11/2005 14:12

Thanks girls.
You've been most helpful.
One last question:

How many songs does a nano hold? Approx. cost?

Surely there is a market here? Spotty teenagers sorting out iPods for middle aged farts like me who just can't be doing with it all??

moondog · 18/11/2005 14:12

Hang on...what's this Shuffle malarkey??

OP posts:
EnidEatsPeasWithACocktailStick · 18/11/2005 14:13

there are people that do that in London mooondog

NotQuiteCockney · 18/11/2005 14:13

Nanos can be 2gb or 4gb. No idea how many songs that is, a thousand at least for the 4gb?

The 4GB costs under £200.

NotQuiteCockney · 18/11/2005 14:17

The shuffle is 1gb (240 songs), £89, 512mb (120 songs), £69. I don't think you can choose which song/album to have, though, out of the ones that are on the shuffle.

iPod nano, 4gb = 1000 songs, £179, 2gb = 500 songs, £139. You can also have them engraved.

moondog · 18/11/2005 14:17

Cheap(ish) and simple sounds good.
Only need about 100 toons to keep me running.

Rose Royce
Doobie Bros
Allman Bros
Stones
Earth Wind and Fire
Jackson 5

That sort of thing...

Enid,I will find out which kids in my village want to earn a little extra cash.

You can get (much) cheaper mp3 players. The interface might not be as cute, though.

NotQuiteCockney · 18/11/2005 14:24

If you provide them with the CDs, that's easier.

Are you sure you want an apple one? They're very pretty, but expensive for what they are.

Just had a quick dig, and you can buy an MP3 player for £27 that will do what you want.

moondog · 18/11/2005 14:26

£27 and it will give me a 100 or so tunes with good quality sound??
Unbelievable!
Gah,I've even got an original Walkman-weighs a ton!
That would do me,don't give two hoots about brands or techie stuff. I'll tell (er..ask) dh to get me one from Duty Free.

Thanks again!

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 18/11/2005 16:28

Just tell him you want an MP3 player, small amount of memory. I think 512mb will be fine. That's over a 100 songs, high quality.

Even if you hire someone to put the initial songs on, you should probably learn to do it yourself, for when you get sick of those songs.

moondog · 18/11/2005 16:49

I'm crap I know........

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 18/11/2005 17:00

The burning CDs thing is tiresome. I have a 4gb iPod Nano, and it's got about 100 songs on right now. I just add another album's worth of songs whenever I feel like it.

I'm not sure what iTunes does when the Nano is full, though.

(I am also sorting out the MP3 player of a neighbour, who can't work out how to burn things or do any of that. She just wants story tapes, though.)
