probably not..I got my twins one from mamas and papas I can honestly say that it was fantastic.

hermykne · 17/11/2005 20:40

charliegirl, there arent recommended, sorry!
there are old threads on this subject,
if its for your dd or ds honeslty they dont need them, not good for their hip developemt and other things....

Expectantmum · 17/11/2005 20:40

I got mine at Babies R'Us online for £40 plus £4 delivery.

beansprout · 17/11/2005 20:42

Aren't they also the biggest cause of accidents for this age group?

starlover · 17/11/2005 20:42

yep. they have been banned in several countries already.

starlover · 17/11/2005 20:43

beansprout yes... biggest cause of accidents.
completely pointless too as far as i'm concerned!

Probably sales were too low due to the controversy. Argos relies upon high sales volumes. Didn't use one myself and think £30-40 is a lot for the amount of use it will get and they need too much room. Baby will probably crawl/cruise within a couple of months anyway.

piffle · 17/11/2005 20:46

Used sensibly and for short amounts of time they can be a godsend though

starlover · 17/11/2005 20:46

put it this way... they don't HELP baby with anything, in fact the position they are in is more likely to hinder a child learning to stand/walk

so... with that in mind the only reason i can see that people have one is to keep child in one place.

soooooo a far better buy would be either one of those static activity table thingies that you strap them into, or a playpen.

we have a babydan playden which is fantastic. once ds is older he can use it with the tent bit, or we can use it to cordon areas off with

charlie
dont feel bad, we all stuff we shouldnt from getting annoyed with them to ...whatever....

but take advice and maybe put her back init in a month or 2

tamula · 17/11/2005 20:59

I found that too, argos does not stock for safety issues, one to many babes falling down the stairs

i found mine in a local independent chilrend store. Ava loves it, she can chase after me and pull things with super speed. she's 7.5 months.

tamula · 17/11/2005 21:00

dont feel bad about door bouncers, ava loves hers too, as long as you are vigilint its nothing to worry about

don't think it is necessarily upstairs - htink of how many houses have steps at front and back doors, down to a lower level kitchen or bathroom etc. Also the other main worry is that when supported upright their reach is longer to kettle leads, cookers, shelves, worktops and so on which have hitherto been out of range and therefore parents won't necessarily realise they are yet hazards.

starlover · 17/11/2005 21:08

but it could only be a couple of steps... i know a few people who have random steps round the ground floor of their house... into kitchen etc

SugaPlum · 18/11/2005 18:15

Whats wrong with door bouncers?

Dodsey · 18/11/2005 18:22

DS1 & 2 both loved their Fun rock.- like a walker thet doesn't go anywhere. They can turn themselves around 360` & when they're braver you can push up the static legs & they can rock themselves back & forward.

Even now at 3, DS2 will try & climb into it when he finds it at my sisters house. Has been a popular item to lend out to friends too.

how about a push along walker or activity table he can support himself on ?

bobblehead · 20/11/2005 01:11

My dd (6 months) has an excersaucer from Toys R Us (think its made by Evenflo) and she absolutely loves it. Lets her stand up and see everything, lots of toys to play with and buys me time to do important things like watch tv and look on mn

Skyler · 20/11/2005 05:38

The Leapstart activity table is good. £30 on Amazon too.

Carameli · 21/11/2005 11:08

my dd had the vtech push along walker, but maybe not at 7mnths. We got it for her 1st birthday. But the activity centre would certainly entertain a 7mnth old.

My brother bought dd the leapstart learning table at the same time and she loved it so so so much. I would certainly recommend that. The legs can also be taken off so easily so you can use it on the floor as well. A great buy.
