FGS all I want is a hat and some gloves for Ds that are nice and fit

Have been everywhere today , Boots, Adams, Woolies, H&M, BHS, M&S and still don't have anything.

They are either all too big, or just plain awful with lots of skateboarders or Graffiti on them.

The only one that fitted was a Bob th builder one but I wasn't that keen on the style of the hat.

Is there anywhere that does nice hat and glove sets that don't cost the earth and will fit a 2.11 yr old ??

There were hundreds of lovely sets for girls.

Have to say, I was really dissapointed with M&S's selection, and BHS for that matter.

none in H & M?

Gap - expensive but last the distance

Enid · 15/11/2005 11:58

m and s clothes for kids are shite

any local farm/country shops?

nutcracker · 15/11/2005 11:59

H&M had a few that I liked but the fit was awful, either huge or tiny, nothing in between.

Will have to try Gap I think. I don't mind paying more if it looks nice and will last.

I like this site

Kelly1978 · 15/11/2005 12:01

mothercare? I got the dts hats from there. I find hats are always huge. I don't know where they get the measurements from, as I haven't seen any kids rnnign around with oversized heads. I bought 3-6 mnths for the dts who are 7 mnths, and they are still big.

fleece gloves, scarf and hat set from john lewis online
(our best gloves were fleece ones from JL)

Caligula · 15/11/2005 12:03

Matalan?

nutcracker · 15/11/2005 12:03

Thanks Enid, will have a browse there.

We don't have a Mothercare, will try there when I try Gap.

Even a plain one would be better than some of the awful ones I saw today.

Primark?

clary · 15/11/2005 12:04

Nutty, I got ds2 some gloves in sainsbury's, they were 75p (!) so not a prob if they get lost. They are a bit big (he's 2.6) but he will wear them as opposed to mittens (too babyish, he's such a big boy now you see).
But I agree it's really hard to find basic stuff like this (decent jamas for a 6yo boy, anyone??)
All the things I found for little ones were silly fingerless mittens.
Hat-wise we have a compete set of football hats bought by DH so the kids can get mocked for being Rotherham fans (don't ask) so that's not much help. But again, IIRC sainsbos had some OK plain knitted hats for boys.

nutcracker · 15/11/2005 12:04

I like that stripy set from JL. H&M had a very simliar one but it was huge.

BTW kelly I think it's my kids you are lookign for!
I had to buy dd a 7-10 yr hat and it's still a bit small. She's 4. In the summer ds2 wore ds1's hat from when he was 4 as the 2-3 yo one I got in Pumpkin patch was tiny! He's 2...

bundle · 15/11/2005 12:05

wrt hat i made one for dd and her friend out of squares of fleece with homemade pompoms. i used red and pink fleece i had left over from blanket making, just cut our squares and lined with the contrasting colour.

nutcracker · 15/11/2005 12:06

Primark was no good either, tried there a few weeks ago.

Dp wants to get him a Villa hat, but i'm not keen really.

There was a set of 3 pairs of gloves in H&M which I will get as spares as they were only £2.99 i think,.

Bit of a risk paying a lot for hat and gloves IMO because they are easily lost. Kelly you have, of course, not met my children. DS is 4.9 and in an Adams 7-10 years hat and DD is 18mo today and in a Next 3-6 hat. Both hats fit perfectly.

Kelly1978 · 15/11/2005 12:53

okay, maybe my kids have abnormally small heads then.

florenceuk · 15/11/2005 14:06

Jojo maman bebe are nice and IME good for small heads as they are quite stretchy. Expensive, but DS fits his from last year still! jester hat

Bozza · 15/11/2005 16:20

Thats a very polite way of putting it Kelly.

Bought hat/gloves/scarf set for £5 from Sainburys yesterday. Fleecey, navy blue with a lighter blue trim.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 25/11/2005 13:13

Waterproof (well snowproof ackcherly) gloves for 2yo DS anyone? All I can find is mittens and fleece or woollen gloves. Also need same for 4yo DD, pref pink - has anyone seen any? TIA

princesspeahead · 25/11/2005 13:36

bearinthebigbluehouse - muddypuddles have a good selection of skiwear incl waterproof gloves for babies and small children. also do very good fleece sort of wristbands to keep their hands warmer - they cover up that gap that you get between sleeve and glove and it makes a big difference to keeping hands warm. they ALSO do proper strings with clips so you can keep their gloves attached to their coats...
as you can see I read the catalogue avidly just last week! muddypuddles.com I think.

HandbagAddiction · 25/11/2005 13:58

I like JoJo hats as well. Very warm and snug - made out of polartec fleece....
