School Christmas Cards

DS came home with 5 packs of cards to sell - each child had to design a card and the packs were produced and sent home. There was no consultaion with teh parents - and the packs of cards are £ 5.5 each!!(8 cards per pack!) I'm even more outraged as there is a slip with the packs stating taht if teh child sells all 5 packs they get a free (!!!) gift.
Has anyone else's school done this? How much does the schoool get for each pack sold?

scotlou - we have done this at our school, organised by the PTA. However, we got each child to design a card and this went home to the parents with an order form. Therefore, the cards were only actually produced if you wanted to buy them.

I think ours were £6 for 1 pack of 12 and £4 for any extra packs (remember cos I ordered 2 packs for £10). I can't remember now what the PTA get but they get a cut of the sales anyway.

Sounds like your school did it the wrong way round!

Don't know if that's clear - the A4 original design was brought home by the child with an order form sellotaped to the back so you could say if you wanted them made up or not and how many packs you'd have. So if you didn't want to order any they wouldn't be made into cards at all.

I feel bad cos ds is quite proud of his card - but teh quality is rubbish and he decided not to put the "Merry Christmas" bit inside so they are all blank!

Eek! You are being encouraged to sell cards which cost almost £30 for the lot! I think that's outrageous, when you haven't been consulted beforehand. This year, the ds' school has done something similar but the picture which each one produced was left on top of their pile of work which we inspected when we went into their class for Parent Teacher evening. It was up to the parents whether to get the cards or not. They do cost a similar amount - £6 for 10 and (I think) £4 per subsequent pack of the same design. The school gets 60p per pack. IMO, this is not a great return but compared to the amount of work which some PTA initiatives require (race evening, quiz night etc) this one was very easy to organise so probably worth it. I bought a pack for each ds and will use them for grandparents, our nanny and other "special" people. However, I wouldn't want this to be a yearly initiative as it IS expensive and our boys are very happy to create cards at home - at a fraction of the cost and many times the mess!

annh, that sounds like ours. Thought it was 60p per pack the school got, but it's deffo 12 cards per pack

We're doing this at the moment for our Xmas Bazaar.

But the children each take home two blank cards to decorate, bring back in and they get packaged in packs of 6 to be sold at the Bazaar for approx 2 euros a pack. All cards original, all money to charity.

I'm hoping it works as I have ended up organising it!!!
