Blackout blind or blackout curtain liners??????

Which are best, a black out blind fitted inside window frame with curtains, or blackout liners sewn onto curtains.

Ds has a new bedroom as we have moved house and there is a street light just outdide his window.

It is a large window measuring 94" (235cm).

And when you have decided, where is the best/cheapset place to buy them.

Cheers

Try textilesdirect- AN online fabric outlet. Real cheap.

We've got both at ds window. Our roller blind was from Homebase but think they have cheap ones at Ikea if you're near one, otherwise John Lewis, etc. If possible best to have the curtains on a track with an enclosed pelmet above it, stops the "halo" effect of light escaping around the top of them.

we have huge windows in our bedrooms. in DD's bedroom (8ft wide) we put a blackout liner on the back of her curtain. the problem is that the curtain pole sticks out a bit so there is still light coming through the sides and bottom of it. we now have the liner on a netcurtain wire straight on the window and that blocks out all light.
(hope that makes sense)

makes perfect sense Lilacbump

can't find textilesdirect - do you have a link?

Our windows are all that size in our new house too oooggs.

I have got made to order blind for DS' room from J Lewis and I'm making some unlined curtains to go over the top.

You will not get a made to measure blind for that width so linings would be cheaper, however I think the blind was worth it.

We haveb oth in ds2's room. And we had to have them made specially as the windows are french doors - floor to ceiling. Also, we had a pelmut fitted to make it really dark.

piffle · 12/11/2005 20:58

both
both made by dd's doting grandmother with fabric bought at Dunelm I think....

I have found a company on ebay doing them 240cm x 170cm for £44.99 + £9.95 P&P. Is this a good price? I can cut it to fit as window 235cm.

I think that for a window that wide you may need to have two roller blinds, I'm not sure about the price of blackout liners but the blackout roller blinds I have were only around £7 in IKEA (they are 3 ft wide x 7 ft h).

What I like about the roller blinds, is that they allow me to have semi transparent curtains that let light in during the day, as the blinds are out of view during the day.

The following website is good for curtains - they supply both made to measure and readymade, and can alter any readymade to fit any window - they've just supplied curtains for a tv show that did up a house in my street and my partner is looking for some new ones from them atm

We decided to go for normal curtains without a blackout lining so they weren't too oppresive during the day and some blackout blinds behind the curtains. It works really well and gives us lots of control over the amount of light entering the room.
