I have the official one - v expensive, but worth it given the state of my handbag and the fact that I want my kindle to last a while! It is a bit heavy mind you...

TrillianAstra · 29/05/2011 13:10

I definitely need something like this...

I actually knitted myself one similar to the one Hugofirst linked too. I used chunkier yarn to add protection and made a sleeve lengthways with a full sized flap with elasticated knitted bit to hold it on. Works well :) Very easy too and doesn't take very long (couple of hours with size 5/6 needles. Chunkier yarn and bigger needles would be less time obvs and offer more protection!

TrillianAstra · 29/05/2011 14:43

Sounds very clever and crafty - I think it might take me more than a couple of hours as I would have to go and buy needles and yarn and then learn how to knit!

Neoprene for me I think :)

I didn't mean to boast, sorry! Grin Knitting simple blocks and stitching them up is about as far as I can go with knitting Wink

TrillianAstra · 29/05/2011 22:28

I didn't take it as boasting, but you shoudl let people compliment you on your knitting skils! :o

I bought a leather one on eBay for about £15 with a light, but not powered from the kindle. It's brilliant for reading in bed instead of feeling that I'm disturbing dh I can read for hours (see bags under eyes). I fold it back and it stands alone, so no handed although obviously hand required for turning the pages I use a ziplock bag in the bath. So far, so good.

BitOfFun · 31/05/2011 15:12

Ziplock bag? What a genius idea!

KindleLexi · 31/05/2011 22:14

Cant claim the credit, someone on MN came up with the ziplock idea - it works well.

I got a silicone skin for mine from Ebay something like this to protect it while I'm reading (in case I drop it or whatever), and a neoprene case (OK, one of the poncy Built NY ones Amazon sells - it has a lovely fluffy interior....) to provide more protection when it's in my bag. I certainly haven't noticed it smelling. There are some similar but much cheaper things on Ebay - I like this one.

The combination seems to work fine - two months and about 20,000 miles of travelling later everything is still in perfect condition.
