All I want is some decent coloured pencils that DON'T break when sharpening. Is it too much to ask?

I've tried Crayola, Bic followed by various supermarket ones. Rubbish! Ta

Are these for your children?
Usually the breakage is caused by the pencil having been dropped on the floor too many times, resulting in the lead being broken all the way down.
It's difficult to avoid that in pencils used by children, especially if you have hard floors.

Lidl and Faber-Castell are fab.I'm presuming Steadler are too because their felt tips are.

I tried them all and started a thread, these were the ones recommended and with good reason.

you get what you pay for really, caran d'ache (or however you spell) are good

Asinine · 25/05/2011 17:36

How old are the kids? I like twistables, they come in lots of thicknesses and there is no waste or sharpening?

MmeLindor. · 25/05/2011 17:38

caran d'ache are the best pencils ever but are a bit more expensive so it depends on the age of the DC.

We are lucky that our school uses Caran d'ache so the DC have loads kicking about

CaptainNajork · 25/05/2011 17:40

Agreed - for younger kids twistables are great.

Older kids or grown ups Faber-Castell or Caran d'Ache

lidl lidl lidl lidl

I agree re the Lidl ones.

I look after a 2 year old who likes to throw them like arrows, they're all sharpened to a point and I kid you not,not one has broken off. We've also got the Lidl clear sharpener(they're quite fat and triangular)that goes with them and that is fab too. I've given these as presents tied in string with a drawing book, they look nice too.

They don't do them all the time, when the autumn school stuff comes in stock up and look out for the pack with the sharpener. They do them in tubes at times too. Really nice vibrant colours.

If you want them for older kids the other brands may be better.

I wouldn't ever bother with cheap pencils, too faint and you can never sharpen them.If you get a good set you'll never need to replace them.

I will get to Lidl poste haste! Thanks - I'm reluctant to spend much on these darn things. They seem to 'disappear' at an alarming rate throughout the term.
