I haven't got one, but surely a duvet could never be worth that much Unless you live at the North Pole...

Yes they are, try www.towelsrus.co.uk the nimbus ones are very good and half the rrp I think.

Had a duvet comparison a month or so ago when I was looking for duvets for my dd's (sad, I know). The ones I looked at were 1) feather 2) half feather and half down 3) 100% down. The 100%, although hideously expensive, was very light and gorgeous. The difference was mainly in that when you rubbed it between your fingers, you couldn't feel any feather ends sticking into you. It didn't seem that much lighter than the down/feather mix. If I had scads of money, I would get the 100% - after all, you do spend (hopefully!) loads of time under it and they should last for years.
Other thing mentioned is that you have to (I think) get them dry cleaned (not totally sure about that, just remember that I wouldn't be able to bung it in the machine at home. Because of this, they are less suitable for people who suffer from allergies (dust mites, etc)
If you are near one, John Lewis staff are really well informed and have samples of quilts to feel.

2 words - bird flu

jennifersofia · 12/11/2005 23:12

(I have never washed my duvets either... but now I am worrying that I should!)
Bird flu? What do you mean?

Passionflowerinapeartree · 13/11/2005 13:47

Don't have to dry clean, take to a laundrette and stick in one of their large washingmachines. I have down pillows and have washed them several times in my washing machine at home. Down and feathers in duvets and pillows have already been heat treated to kill dust mites and other vermin so should be safe re bird flu.
