my dd will be 2 1/4 at Christmas and I would love to get her a baby doll as she has started to really care for her soft toys, putting them to bed, changing them, feeding them etc etc.
What would people recommend. I am not so sure whether one of the full crying, wetting etc etc Baby Annabels or Chou chou would be sitable for her age or not.
What have other done here. What do you think of the First baby Annabel?

Get her a proper one - she may not use all the functions yet but it will last her longer. You can always remove some of the smaller accessories.

but I've heard lots of horror stories about people loosing bits and not being able to keep the doll happy/quiet?

Could this happen?

Tiny Tears isn't electronic or noisy but has the usual selection of bits, similarly Baby Born. One of the elc ones is from aged 2 too I think.

I bought my dd a doll from Woolworths last year suitable for age 1+ very Plastic head & farbric body - She loves carry it around & feeding it! she is nearly 2

Dd's first doll was a mini Corolle, like this . Really pretty.

We got dd her first baby doll from Toys'R'Us at around that age. Just one with a nice face, closing eyes and a soft body. Cost around £10 and was loved to bits. She later got a Baby Annabel which she still loves, but never switchs on!

My Dd (2.5 mths)loves her babyborn (i think it's ugly) I think she liked the bottle & the dummy best.

She now prefers a hard headed but soft body doll I bought at an NCT sale for 50p.

if you can get something soft bodied, so she can cuddle it & with a bottle & dummy, you'll be on to a winner !

Get a basic doll but buy a changing bag set/accessories to go with it. At that age DD loved to use all the bottles/cups/spoons and bowls/nappies/potties etc. We later added to it by getting cot and highchair.

Been looking at a few and really liked the ELC Baby Millie but still wonder about all the function. Can you turn them off?

Also as anyone any experience of Baby Lucy, it looked nicer than the 1st baby Annabel so I was also thinking of getting her one of those maybe with lots of accessories to play with and then later in the year maybe a functioning doll?

She already loves to tell me her soft toys are crying and need a hg or nappy so thinking maybe a non-functioning doll or one that can be switched off somewhere might be a place to start.

Has not had any dolls yet due to dh being terrified of me stereotyping her

dd2 has a baby born and plays with it a lot. She's got one of those that go in the bath - no batteries to worry about. Totally overpriced IMHO but I didn't have to buy it!!! She's had her money's worth.

tortoiseshell · 11/11/2005 19:43

I got dd a John Lewis doll that is a bit like Annabel, but doesn't cry - it laughs and says 'Mama' and slurps its bottle, and goes to sleep, but that's it. Was significantly cheaper than baby Annabel!

LIZS · 11/11/2005 19:46

Saw a Tiny Tears labelled from aged 2 today. You can also get a back pack/carrier with various accessories - dd loves hers (we've got the Classic one) ! Think it was this version

Carameli · 11/11/2005 19:49

tortoiseshell, that sounds lovely to me. I just wondered if the crying would be a bit too much for dd and me

ANyone of has dolls that eat special food, is it easy to clean them out.
We are soon going to be potty training for the idea of baby born with the potty sounds good on paper but I wondered as well what it would be like in real life trying to clean food out of it.
