Car tyres all need replacing only four months after buying the car, tough or should we complain?

We bought a car from a reputable dealership that was under a year old before the VAT went up at the beginning of the year. Today I've been told that all the tyres are very low and ought to be replaced. It mostly been used for small local trips with a couple of long 200 mile each way journeys - we're not boy racers.

I'm really fed up that we've got to pay out £400 to have safe tyres so soon after buying the car. The dealership mention the used car scheme on their website and it talks about the car being fully checked etc prior to buying. It was owned and used by them before we bought it.

Do you think we have a case to ask them to replace or contribute towards replacing the tyres? This is of course assuming the tyre place wasn't spinning me a yarn today.

the last tyres i got on my car have only lasted 3 months which im very annoyed at (i do a lot of miles)
have you checked them yourself to see if they do actually need replaced?lots of garages will tell you they do,regardless of whether they are or not, just to make some money from you!
other thing - what type of car do you drive? £400 for tyres sounds very steep!(unless you have a huge 4x4)
tyres are wear and tear and you wont get them replaced by the garage.the tyres that are on it have probably been on it since the car was new,and thats probably why they needed replaced, the garage would have checked them before you bought it,but if they were legal then they wouldnt replace them for you.

sazm - I'm sure you're right really, I just feel cross to have paid a lot for an almost new car and to have to shell out again. It's not a 4 x 4, but is a 7 seater mum-mobile so they are pricey.

Will probably have to just grumble to myself.

i would def phone around all the local tyre places, dont go to a big dealer,

i paid £34 for my tyres each, just basic budget tyres, from my local small tyre dealer. kwik fit wanted £99 each, ats £89, and even worse,

I think as long as the tyres were legal when you bought the car then you don't have a good case for claiming from the dealer, I'm afraid as tyres are consumables.

I would get another opinion as they could be trying it on telling you that you need to replace them all.
