Jonelle Brand as found in John Lewis- any good?

My family (who live on otherside of the planet) have asked that I register for baby gifts to make it easier for them.

I was in John Lewis this morning and the "nursery advisor" kept pushing Jonelle brand cot sheets/towels/clothes ect. ect.

They looked terrible quality through the plastic packaging, though hard to tell if that was really the case. It doesn't seem that John Lewis offer much else though.

Anyone use the Jonelle stuff and have opinions on it?

(along those lines... any one know of a baby gift registry that is not John Lewis? It has been a completely frusterating experience dealing with them so far)

Jonelle is the John Lewis brand (John L = Jonelle). They're fine. Towels are good, sheets are fine.

I'm happy with any Jonelle things that DS or DD have had.

ToysRUs do a baby gift registry I think as well.

acnebride · 03/11/2005 12:54

If you think the registry is bad i wouldn't use it. I'm really surprised it was so bad - could you try a different store? I had Jonelle fitted cot sheets and they were absolutely lovely.

NB also had some vests from there (second hand) and they were great quality but very small.

What about Argos, or maybe Boots, do they do a list? I really like Boots baby clothes.

Found Jonelle sheets to be great and they definitely go the distance.

Our Jonelle cots sheets etc. are now 5 years old still going strong and look fine as well. No experience of the registry however - sorry!

Lonelymum · 03/11/2005 13:07

My God Jonelle poor quality? Never! I swear by them and anything they make is excellent. (And I am not otherwise a Primark girl - I can always find the most expensive item in any shop because it is always the thing that naturally attracts me).

Marina · 03/11/2005 13:08

Well, unless you want Egyptian cotton or pure linen for your baby I'd be very happy with the Jonelle brand quality.
Sorry the Baby Registry is not being helpful though

NotQuiteCockney · 03/11/2005 13:08

I find their stuff quite good. But it depends what you're used to.

Their registry services are weird and annoying to deal with - we had them for our wedding. But the products are good quality at a fair price.

great! very helpful to hear actually. if it is good enough for mumsnetters then it is good enough for baby-to-be.

perhaps just being flustered by the registry process contributed to my confusion and basic kerfuffledness. I just looked at a pack of towels quickly (which was frayed on one end) but must have just been an unlucky packet. I didn't really have a good look at the other stuff, but you folks seem pleased enough, so I won't worry about it.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't the kind of thing that would fall apart after one washing- but it doesn't sound like it would from the postings here.

Definitely not (about to fall apart). I still have the two sets of towels my mother bought me to go to college with - that was 21 years ago. I use one set each week and they are still going strong though the flannels are very thin and really need replacing!

vickiyumyum · 03/11/2005 16:37

no john lewis own brand stuff is really good, i brought most of my baby stuff ther, much better than the mothercare stuff. even the muslins are good value and last for years and years, still have some that are almost as good as new in the drawerr now and ds2 is 3.8 (not really sure why they are still there tbh!)

eidsvold · 04/11/2005 03:18

Yes Yes Yes - still using Jonelle brand baby gros on dd2 - and both dds are not fast growers - especially dd1 so we certainly got our use out of them. Have some jonelle linen being used for no2. The moses basked is also being used by friend ( couldn't really bring it to Aus with us)

Am also using tesco baby gros too that have lasted the distance - Hennes ( H &M) too on baby no 2.

Bellie · 04/11/2005 07:34

had a set of towels when dd was born from JL and from mothercare - dd was 1 last week and the mothercare towels are going a bit see through - JL ones will last until she leaves home (not that she will ever do that of course!)
