Sliding doors

I have 3 DCs (6mo, 2 & 4) and we are finding our Ford Fusion car a real squeeze when we all go out so looking for a larger car (on a tight budget). I am looking for something that is not a gas guzzler and has sliding doors. I don't know why but sliding doors is something that feels really important to me - do you think this is an important enough feature to make decision on?

  • can anyone suggest car that fits the 3 car seats and also has slidy doors?

I think maybe the Citroen Berlingo is something I've thought of...

We have a Berlingo. It's fab! You get quite a lot of car for your money. It's not particularly stylish, and it doesn't go particularly fast. But you can put an amazing amount of stuff in the boot, and three car seats in the back easily. You're quite high up, so kids get a good view.
And sliding doors really do make things easier :)

And I believe the new berlingos can put an extra two seats in the boot. When ours dies (it's only five though) we'll be replacing it with another of the same.

Thanks FromGirders, that is encouraging to hear. What model do you have? Was looking and there seems to be quite a few to choose from. Think we will have to go for one of the older ones though.

liding doors are a real boon when you have 3 littlies - makes parking and getting in and out in tight spaces much easier.

Sadly though cars big enough to take 3 carseats across the back and have sliding doors tend to be gas guzzlers.

I think the mazda 5 probably does (although I didn't like it much when I looked at it - I went for a VW touran but that doesn't have sliding doors). Mazda's are very goo mechanically and very reliable.

this might help - has a list of those sliding doors a couple of years ago.

mummymendez - I have absolutely no idea what model we have Smile
It's blue.
Gas-guzzling wise, we can do a good 500 miles on a tank of diesel. Not that I'm actually sure how big a tank is - we very very rarely fill it up to the top!

OK, ashamed at my ignorance, I've gone and looked at the insurance cert to see what model it is. Apparently its a Berlingo Multispace Desire DI.
Does that help you at all?

We test drove the Mazda with sliding doors and it was v cramped as the door mechanism makes the row of seats narrower so I dont think you'd fit 3 car seats in the middle row. The new ford c-max has sliding doors but again the middle seat is not full size. We bought a ford s-max ( no sliding doors) in the end.
