Saw it, but you can't really get any idea from the box.

How durable is it?

We bought it in 2001 (in the US) and its still their favourite game - goes down a storm when taken into school for a Games day. The only thing we have had to replace is the Playdough. The newer version doesn't look so good (with a magnetic drawing board) and I would recommend the original version. Its a mixure of Pictionary, Charades Modelling with Clay and Quiz - fab, fab game!

finmac..don't you mean cranium cadoo??

I have been looking at cranium cariboo..also unsure. Would love to hear a review.

FWIW- I also think cranium cadoo is excellent..but the ds's are too small for that. It does entertain all visiting children easily though.

Yes, I am thinking of the one for 3years plus.

I've just read some reviews on Amazon and they all say that if your kid can already do letters, shapes and numbers they will find it boring?

So what's the point of it being age 3 and up? Is that just for the choking aspect?

So what do you "do" with the numbers, shapes and letters - if you just match them up, then yes, ds would find this pretty boring.

dss age 3 & 5 got it between them for their last birthdays and they LOVE it. It is definitely a favourite and they play with it on their own for ages too. I would highly recommend it.

Basically there are 2 sets of cards a younger version and and older version. There are lots of holes which are covered by cards with picturs (each pic has a word, colour , no of objects) player picks a card from a pile and has to choose eg a hole with 3 items or beginning with letter A etc (easy version) and then they have a key to pop the card on the hole. The aim is to find bouncy balls - 6 in all. When you find one you put it in a special tunnel and when you have found all 6 the treasure chest opens.

Having to hurry as I need to get ds2 from playgroup but as I say my 2 love it and happily play it on their own searching for the balls.

bobbybob · 31/10/2005 14:01

What do they have to do in the older version?

Are the questions self checking, or can they just put any card in and then open up with the key.

Ds is allergic to latex, are the bouncy balls rubbery or plasticy.

Hi
We haven't played the older version yet although it is the same principle I think just more complicated words, pictures etc (could probably check tomorrow). The balls are just like normal bouncy balls brightly coloured rubber type ones.

Sometimes they play with the cards and take turns but they have more fun popping the holes trying to find the balls and often don't even use the cards. Possibly sounds a bit boring but it is very easy to play alone and it does entertain them.

the cards aren't really questions they are more like 'A', '3' or a colour eg blue - not the word just the colour and then the child can chose any hole which matches 'A' etc to search for a ball so they also have to remember which ones have already been checked. The teaching emphasis is quite simple in this version but would be adequate for a 3 year old.

cod I wouldn't recommend it for a 5 & 7 year old.

Ds who is 5 got Guess Who for his birthday and loved that he also liked Screwball challenge I think it was called.

I am getting them more games for Christmas as it is easy to stack them and they don't take up too much space. I got one in Tescos today that I know ds1 will love says on it 6+ I think it was called Wiggly Worms and is purely for fun. It comes with 2 bandstands to set the worms up on and 2 small plastic guns (we don't have any weapons in our house so it is a kind of compromise) they shoot foam type pellets and you have to knock down your opponents worms. I just know ds will love it.

Also got ds1 a GeoSafari for his birthday from ebay for less than £10 and it is really fantastic it came with 2 sets of cards and is really educational but fun too. One set teaches reading and ds has managed to read quite a lot of words by using it as it doesn't speak so you HAVE to read. You can get lots of different sets of cards teaching pretty much anything, science maths geography etc. Definitely something I would recommend.
