Where can I get a proper big jam boiler, or whatever they're called?

So far I've only come across quite small, expensive modern versions.
I remember my mum having a big pot with sloping sides - supposed to be better for making jam?

TIA.

I have seen them in antique/bric a brac shops. We have one which we keep the newspapers in .

What about ebay?

Avalon · 30/10/2005 12:39

I'm an eBay virgin, puff! and I guess postage on those things would be pretty steep.

S'pose I'm just hoping there'll be a shop that still does the sort I'm after.

They have a couple on Amazon , quite expensive though, you'd need to make a lot of jam before it was worthwhile.

Damn, that link doesn't work. I went to home and garden and searched for "jam pan".

There are some old ones on ebay - starting prices of £10, postage an extra £8. Also some new ones for £30.

Ours is one of dh's "family heirlooms" otherwise I'd have sent it to you (I'm not that keen as I don't make jam !).

Do you have a pressure cooker? I use mine without the lid on to make jam, it's big enough to get a good rolling boil going.

I use a large( huge) suacepan casserole thing with straight side from john Lewis which is better than my slopey proper jam one as you lose less from the splashing and it can go in the dishwasher

If you are only making small amounts of jam you can do it in a breadmaker.

There are quite a few on ebay at the moment

Cheers ladies.

Thanks for the ideas and links.
