Highchair dilemma

DD1 (21m) currently uses a Kuster highchair (without its tray) at the table, but I'd like to get her out of it asap so that it doesn't bother her when DD2 (currently 2 months) starts using it in a few months' time. DD1 still needs to be 'strapped in' at mealtimes and the plan was to move her to her booster seat , but we soon discovered that when she pushes on the table with her hands or feet, our kitchen chairs tip over backwards

We'd like to avoid buying another highchair if poss because DD1 surely won't be using one for too much longer, and we just don't have room for another one in our tiny kitchen. And even if we reattach the tray to the booster seat, we'd have to move her chair so far from the family table to make it safe that it'd be ridiculous. Any ideas?

cant you sit her with her back to the wall? that way she cant tip backwards.

could you tie the chair to the table leg?

also every time she does it tell her off!

bsg: our kitchen table is up against a window on one side so only has chairs round the other 3: one has its back to the rest of the room (which is where DD1 normally sits), the other 2 chairs are wedged between the table and the washing machine on one side and cupboards, microwave etc on the other. (It's not really an 'eat-in kitchen' ) We thought about moving her but she'd then have very close access to the worktops, microwave etc. and just loves standing up in her chair, shoving dangerous things in the microwave, etc etc - more hassle than it's worth and would make it impossible to use the microwave, washer etc while she's eating.

S2BHL: Will have a think about a secure way of tying chair. As for telling off .... you mean that actually stops some toddlers from risking their lives?!

welll i figured evcentually the telling off may have an effect! could take some time though!

this is really evil but i would be tempted to stand behind her chair and let her topple it backwards... obviously catching it before she hurts herself... but perhaps it'd shock her into not doing it

startingtobehalloweenylover · 29/10/2005 20:52

ooh actually could you tie something really heavy to the front chair legs to stop it tipping?

Hi, don't know if this is any help but chicco do a table top chair, the ones that actually fix onto the table so you do away with the need of a chair and they are suitable up to 36 months or 33lbs.
I had one and found it great and it's handy and portable if your going out or on holiday.

Ds did this when we first put him in his booster. We did do the evil thing, and let him fall back, catching him at the last minute. There was a little silence, then he looked worried... then he grinned and said 'funny'. Not exactly what we'd planned! He seems to have just grown out of it really, after a few weeks of dh keeping his foot on the rung of the chair to weigh it down. We didn't want to put him against the wall, as then he couldn't see out of the window, which he loves, and also there'd be food all up the wall!

I like Soupy's idea best, it would solve a myriad of problems
