Wooden jigsaw puzzle wanted!

Ds is just getting into jigsaws (late - he's four) and as he chews everything I wanted a nice, quite easy wooden one (not cardboard), ideally with the picture on the tray as well as on the pieces as he's very unconfident with jigsaws.
Mumsnet is the only place on earth you can place a request like this! I know you won't let me down. it's for Christmas. If you can buy it online I will be ecstatic.

i saw some giant wooden floor puzzles, and you get a choice of how many peices. lemme go see.

misdee · 25/10/2005 22:56

any good?

JonesTheSteam · 25/10/2005 22:57

Scroll down the page to wooden toys and click on puzzles and jigsaws

We got some in Wilkinson for DS, he has a habit of destroying things but so far hasn't succeeded in breaking the wooden puzzle!

aloha · 25/10/2005 22:58

Ooh, that counting puzzle is right up his street! Thank you Misdee.
Do wooden puzzles with the picture underneath exist?

there is a noahs ark one in that site (product code bj063) whihc may be suitable. it doesnt have the exact picture underneath but a pic of the inside of the ark.

popmum · 25/10/2005 23:03

How about these ? we have them and at £10 for 3 i think it is pretty good. pictures are underneath.

JanH · 26/10/2005 13:43

aloha, I was in the Cancer Research shop this morning and they have a couple of things that might do; one is an inset one, with knobs, of 5 vehicles eg police car, fire engine. It probably doesn't have pictures in the space (sealed pack) but it makes the appropriate noise when you put the piece in which is quite an incentive!

The other is a square picture with 12 (I think - maybe 9) conventional jigsaw shapes, eg pink elephant, zebra. On the back of the frame is what looks like a loose picture which you could put inside the space to help place the pieces.

aloha · 26/10/2005 21:43

Thanks everyone - I have quite a few fit tray puzzles where you fit the pieces in. Just wondered if there was such a thing as a wooden one with the identical picture underneath. We have some cardboard ones like that, but it's actually quite hard to get the pieces to fit together and stay together.

aloha, both the ones I mentioned are wooden.

soapbox · 26/10/2005 22:09

Struth - I only sent a huge pile of these kind to the charity shop last week!

Maybe I could go in and buy them back

Tchibo have a nice map one at the moment - but not sure if they picture is underneath - but is possibly a bit tricky anyway.

tamum · 26/10/2005 22:42

aloha, it's not a jigsaw, but I wonder if he would be interested in these bear families ? They have to be put in correctly- maybe a bit easy, but it could help with confidence?

aloha · 26/10/2005 22:45

Tamum, aw thanks, but we already have a bear and he really does love it - changing the expressions and outfits - it's more the next step. JanH, sorry, didnt' want to seem to be ignoring you. The puzzles where you drop in a shape are lovely (and I do have some), but I really wanted a more trad 'grown-up' jigsaw for him. I think the only ones like it in the world are no in Soapbox's local charity shop

The elephant/zebra ones are proper jigsaws, in a frame, with the picture underneath - is 12 pieces too few?

tamum · 26/10/2005 22:50

I thought it might be a bit easy, sorry. There are some on Tridias which are not what you're asking about but which might be worth a look- crocodile alphabet , or appealing but probably too easy

aloha · 26/10/2005 22:56

JanH, I am so sorry. I am very stupid today (as you have probably gathered) and only read half your message properly. Yes, the others sound perfect and 12 is certainly NOT too easy for ds! Any chance you could snap them up for me (I hope that's what you are offering and I'm not being too presumptious) and I could pay you for them and postage and everything. Being dyspraxic he finds doing jigsaws hard but he really wants to try and I'm trying to make it easier for him.

JanH · 26/10/2005 22:57

These come in a minimum of 30 pieces - you could email to ask if there could be a picture under the jigsaw?

JanH · 26/10/2005 23:05

Oh, sorry, aloha - cross posted!

I would be happy to buy 1 (or more) for you if you don't have a Cancer Research shop near you to choose in

aloha · 26/10/2005 23:11

Have just done so! Thanks Jan.
