I love my Vauxhall Astra. Roomy inside and lots of boot space.

Lel1972 · 25/10/2005 22:49

I know you said not too keen on Fords, but we have a Ford Focus estate, and i love it love it love it! good on petrol, comfortable, big, and so nice to drive. we previously had an Astra and had nothing but trouble with it, so went back to Fords.

my mum has a Vauxhall Zafira, and it's really uncomfortable, and guzzles diesel.

Nissan Almera Tino.

I'm loving our new Zafira. Think it's very comfortable and doesn't seem any harder on fuel than any previous car we've had (though I could be wrong about that), but if you don't need the extra seats, the Meriva sounds good.

After much research I got a Vauxhall Zafira this summer & love it. Infact I've raved about it so much 2 friends have gone & bought one!!The higher position is great & easy to get in & out of - even for elderly relatives. Use it as a roomy estate with a very easy conversion to make it 7 seats for cousins, friends, grandparents. Lel1972 is right about the diesel version, our research warned us not to buy diesel. Saying that I couldn't tell you what it's consumption is though.

I have a diesel Zafira and I wouldn't say it guzzles fuel - probably doesn't manage 50mpg but it's well up there in the 40s. I love it!

ford focus

Meriva has a high driving position and is economical too I believe!!!

Only has to be service every 2 years or 20,000 miles as well, so cheaper costs there also!

Another vote for a Scenic diesel. Apart from its lack of personality it's the best car I've ever owned.
Dp and I both had Astras a few years ago and although my diesel was fantastic his 1.4 petrol was dreadful. That used to cut out all the time - including fastlane of M1 like your Renault did. Perhaps it's a petrol thing.
I'd be happy to have another Vauxhall but dp wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. Not sure about Meriva though - friend's dh works for Vauxhall at Ellesmere Port and got a staff discount on one. They got rid of it after 3 months as it drove like a shed. They got a Focus C-max instead.
Can recommend Mondeo estates, especially the more ancient variety. My petrol one did nearly 200k before it bit the dust and it had a massive boot. Bugger to park in tiny on street spots though.

My Meriva is lovely to drive - deffo not a shed!!!!!

Must have been nice - my husband was willing to trade in his two year old SAAB 9-3 for it!!!!

We have a Seat Altea diesel. It?s a great car, looks different/cool v. nice to drive and incredibly practical. Because of the way the group is organised it basically has all the best bits of VW and Audi without having to pay a premium for the badge. It?s incredibly economical and reliable and the dealers have won awards for customer service. It?s also very tardis like. If you needed something bigger the model up has a vast boot (the Toledo I think). For some reason (marketing, brand cache?. I don?t know what) you don?t see very many of them, but they are worth checking out. I also think that the Honda-FRV has got lots of great reviews and Honda is known to be dead reliable?..

I have a zafira too and love it
it has plenty of boot room for wheelchair(not folded down btw) and shopping if the extra 2 seats arent up
