Finding trousers and jobbers for a very slim boy?

Can anyone recommend a retailer whose trousers and joggers are on the slim side, without using adjustable waists? My 6 year old son is very small around the waist but with long legs. I can't buy younger sizes as they would be half-mast! Trousers rarely fit him unless they have an adjustable waist but he's starting to complain that the bunching up is uncomfortable. Also he could do with some jogger bottoms but they literally just fall down his legs! Any pointers would be helpful...

Hi
My five year old is 126cm tall but is very slim and we have the same problem and even adjustable waists just bunch up around his bottom and look daft- I have looked everywhere for a solution so I hope someone else has some ideas.

What about looking for skinny jeans etc? Some designs are just going to be baggier. Gap do a slim fit jean, as do Boden, Vertbaudet too I think. I got ds1, who is a v.v.skinny (but not too tall) 7yo some H&M jeans last week which are great, they do various styles if you look. Zara also do a lot of slim fit trousers.

Or try those stretchy elastic S belts instead of the adjustable waists, they're very comfortable and cheap. It does depend on the brand about the adjustable waists. I find the more I pay for the trousers, the better quality and more comfortable the waist is. With 5/6 year olds you can spend a bit more as they're at school most of the time anyway and don't need as many clothes (IMO anyway, but I have 2 more boys to pass down to).

I have the same problem with my DC's and have resorted to sewing vents.
Well, 'vents' maybe overstretching the truth a little, more like little bunches of fabric but you get the point.

Stretchy top jeans from Asda folded over at the top. Or with a dart in the top. Or with extra elastic threaded through the middle bit of the stretchy.

DS2 is a spindleshanks and skinny jeans work a treat for him but the adjustable button bits at the top can cut in a bit so I cut the buttons off and sew the elastic in place.

European brands - H and M and Decathlon come up skinnier than many.

Same problem here.

I do the vents thing too, and have a selection of elasticated beltsGrin

M&S jogging bottoms (4 pounds) age 6, fit ds1 (nearly 6 & 120cm tall) perfectly

Gap do a pretty good range of jeans, and agree with going for the skinny/slim fit.

Ds1 is all legs and no waist!

I second the Vertbaudet recommendation - the slimfit ones do have adjustable waists but you don't need to do much adjustment (so don't get that "bunched up" thing going on. I have yet to solve the track-pants thing though.

I support the H&M suggestion. My 2yo is 50th centile weight vs beyond 98th centile height, yet their 2-4yr trousers have some growing length for him and adjustable waists. My nephew (6yr old) also uses them. They are very reasonably priced and can get some cool styles too.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I think a shopping trip is in the offing for ol' sparrow-legs!

I’m resurrecting this thread as our school have just changed the rules to all day PE kit on PE days and we always used to avoid long trousers for PE and just do shorts.

Now she will have to wear long trousers all day but they’re prescriptive about “traditional style” jogging bottoms

Help please!!
