There is a way of turning off the ratchet noise when the gate retracts apparently but we lost the instructions and don't know how to do it.

Does anyone know how or even if this is true?
DS is petrified of the noise and screams when he hears it but otherwise loves the noisiest of things (pneumatic drills he loves) can't work out why but the best solution would be to just turn off the noise.

Thanks

didnt know you could turn it off. unless you keep hold of the button as it retracts.so like you would to open it but hold it while it shuts.

can't turn it off - only hold the button down like nemo suggests. You can't do this one handed though (i.e. when you're carrying a sleeping child)

oh no, what a stupid gate for so much money, its really fiddley to shut the hooks over too.

Anyone else please???

I had one and it was rubbish. I got rid of it and got a normal one!

I could never get through it one handed. Even two handed I had problems closing it.

really glad to read this as I was thinking of getting 2

Thankyou for saving me a fortune

Sorry i cant be of any help though

I think the fact that they are very difficult to open is good in that my nearly 4 year old can't open it so If I really want to keep them down or up stairs, I can BUT anyone else needs a 15 minute tuition session in the art of opening the bloody thing - so far I have only trained my nephew and my MIL - no-one else can open them

I bought one just for my kitchen door opening only. I agree they are impossible to open 1 handed, but it's the only gate that continues to foil my 4 year old who likes to career around the kitchen (with 2 year old brother in tow) at high speed just when I'm moving hot pans around etc!

Just got one and think it is fantastic!!!!!!!

Can now do it one handed took loads of practice and took a whole week.

Bought it second hand for £20 and so pleased with it I would even have paid full price.

magicfarawaytree · 24/10/2005 18:47

to stop the ratched noise press the button down and keep it pressed whilst the gate is reeling back to full open position.

magicfarawaytree · 24/10/2005 18:48

by the way love my gate. can sometimes be a bugger to catch both top an bottom if I am in hurry but it is the only gate that dd cant open. Has to get a chair etc - which often gives me time to catch her at it.

ja9 · 24/10/2005 18:59

i'm looking to buy one. any of you want to sell it then?

noma · 24/10/2005 20:44

I love my gate just right at the top of the stairs nothing to trip over but it does make a noise you have to hold the button down and you cant open it with a baby in your arms.
