We would still like to get the M and P's carrots the donkey rocker for DS. However, in view of how awful our finances our, added to the fact that my mother, who is, bless her, a bit stingey (in the nicest possible way!), believes DS has too many toys, we have decided that this will come from DP, I and my parents to spread the cost.

However, my mum says I hardly used my rocker and is concerned it will be a waste. So I have decided to seek some opinions and see what all of you wonderful Mn's think who have children and rockers. Will it be a waste of a pressie?

hmm my cousin never used hers!

i was going to get one for ds, but worried that he wouldnb't use it that much... so have decided on the little wooden trike from ELC (with trailer)
kids i used to look after LOVED that, even when they were about 5! lol

'Carrots the Donkey' rocker??
Is that really its name?
How surreal!

Howmuch is it and watch age range does it suit?

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 22/10/2005 20:12

He is £70 if IIRC.

Well floss,up to you and all that but if money is tight,I would point out that I've seen loads of things like this that serve essentially the same purpose in second hand shops for about £4!

(That carrot would go awol on the first day I reckon.)

startingtobehalloweenylover · 22/10/2005 20:18

flossam, i think i have seen him cheaper... our local nursery shop has them for £50 i think!

boots do a snake one for £27!

stripey · 22/10/2005 20:26

IMO it would be a waste of money. It does look cute but wouldn't last long. Little Tykes do a blue plastic one for around £10 and it can also be used in the garden.

Not sure how old your child is but we had a Graco fun rocker cost around £50 from Toys r us and it was fantastic. Its a bit like a baby walker but doesn't have wheels child sits in the middle and can turn and rock but also play with lots of toys which are attached. It was a great way to keep ds safe while I was in the shower etc. Useful from around 5 mths to 1+

I think that that looks like the sort of thing children run to at playgroups, but rarely use at home. I'd go the second hand route if I really wanted one. £70 seems an awful lot to me for a toy with a relatively short life. I wouldn't spend that much (even now, and my two are 5 and 6) unless I was sure it would be played with for a good few years.

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 22/10/2005 21:07

nooka, I thought it would last a good few years. But I've just seen on ELC it is only for 1-2 years. So have pretty much scrapped that plan. Any other ideas what i can get? Already have a trike.

Are you talking Christmas floss??
Seriously, why do you have to get anything?

startingtobehalloweenylover · 22/10/2005 21:11

how old is he again?

i also thought of the fisher price roll arounds and associated bits of big plastic!

startingtobehalloweenylover · 22/10/2005 21:12

i think that this is fab

my brother used to have a garage a bit like it and we played with it loads

startingtobehalloweenylover · 22/10/2005 21:15

or this has a lot of scope and will be enjoyed for a few years i would imagine

saw someone recommending this on another thread (i'd like it!)

or roll arounds there are cheaper ones too

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 22/10/2005 21:17

MD its his first birthday. I do feel I should have something that I can say 'thats what mummy and daddy brought you'. Dosen't have to be expensive, just something a little boy will love. Xmas we will just get little odds and sods (like a shape sorter) nothing much.

SL the garage I saw months ago and asked my parents to buy for us, but they weren't sure. They will be travelling on the bus etc. Maybe we should buy him that instead. I do like it, I had a fisher price one when I was a child and I loved it!

i think the garage is fab... i think it's one of those things with a lot of potential... cars can be played with by themselves and small enough to take out when you go out

it's basically a new version of the old fisher price one isn't it? with the lift that goes up and down... i can remember playing with it and thinking it was amaaaaazing! lol

Floss - the best present we bought DS was a Little Tikes Cosy Coupe. It was the only toy he'd fought over with other children at their houses and we bought a second hand one from an NCT sale for £15 for a Christmas (he was 17 months). He spent all of Christmas day in it - including eating his lunch! He played with it every day for at least a year/year and a half.

We are lucky we have enough room in our house for him to whizz around on it but every child I know who has one loves it.

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 22/10/2005 22:31

Thanks Gem, but space is a bit of an issue. Also have no garden as in 3rd floor flat. Sat him in one a few weeks ago too, and he didn't want to know!!!
