After having had total 9 hours sleep over last 4 days with teething ds3 (he's usually fine) i am considering buying one. Could anyone advise whether they think they are worth the money as ds3 is now 6 months. How long did you use yours? Can you hiree them?
Is anyone selling one? I am looking for a no frill one. I so need some sleep..........

I have one- and hand on heart it is absolutely brilliant! They say they can be used until 12 months, but depending on whether the child is a wriggler/escapee they can stay in it for much longer. My daughter stayed in until she was 15 months.
When they move it gently rocks, so very soothing. But if you're buying it just to get some sleep- it wont really help if your ds is in pain. It goes up and down in seconds so great for travelling. You can't hire them that I know of, but I think they are good value for money.
CAT me if you want any photos of it or any more advice.

thanks mummvicky - sounds promising. I've been trying to find one in the baby shops around devon but nothing. can you only buy them direct from amby nest themselves? really would like to see one first before i buy. i've had him in bed sleeping in my arms since he was 4 days old. if i put him down in cot he hates the feeling of space so thought hammock may soothe him?

Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one, Get one.

They're fab . DD2 has been in hers since birth and is now 7 months and showing no sign of being ready to move out of it. We've taken it on holiday twice (abroad) and are planning on using it until at least 12months.

They say you can use it up to 24month if you buy an extra spring!

bonym - do you think i should get one then

I did - they were great. Answered loads of questions before I even purchased and delivery was pretty quick.

Ive been in touch with the inventor- he's a lovely man !
Poor you shrub sounds like you've had a tough time with your ds.
Babies that have got used to sleeping in your arms/bed will kick up a fuss when put into a cot, but after a while, as they get used to it, it does get better I promise !! ( been there 3 times!)
The natures nest is so much nicer than a cot !!
I bought mine direct too- arrived the next day.

thanks mummyvicky - have taken the plunge and we have just set it up
though still unsure of instructions relating to the fabric strap thats at the top under the coat hanger middle, near the button hole type opening - it says to wrap it around the fabric but not possible? can anyone clarify? also adjusting the sides of fabric through horns to lift up mattress higher or tilt slightly is equally baffling. my lack of understanding instructions could be due to sleep deprivation! heres hoping for a good night

I never understood the fabric strap either !! just velcroed it out of the way !!
The adjusters at the side you pull the fabric tighter/slacken it then tie the ties around it to hold it into place.

How did the first night go ??

laligo · 26/10/2005 11:36

it does take a bit of fiddling with. we wrapped the velcro strap around the fabric as it runs across the top of the coathanger thingy...

when you go away, pack the hammock in its carry bag first and then you'll find you can fit in a load of other stuff too - ie all the baby blankets, clothes and nappies, no need for a separate baby bag! genius.

we've had the hammock since ds was born and he's always been a good sleeper - not sure if that's the reason! we find if he wakes up, putting a hand on his chest, and gently bouncing him and the hammock that way, gets him back to sleep. good luck with it!

I got one for my dd when she was 4 months old, but because she wasn't used to it, she never settled in it I'm afraid. However, I'm expecting again and will definately be using it from birth this time.
