does anyone know where i can find one of those change mats that have an integral safety harness to stop your baby from rolling off when they are determined to do so? thx in advance!

Nope, but I've always done mine on the floor, not worth the risk. Pin them down with one hand, give them a toy or sing silly songs to them. Don't think I've had a particularly wriggly one though.

is \link{http://www.safetots.co.uk/item--Safe-Harness-Changing-Mat--SafeHarnessChangingMatthis} what you are after, seems a bit pricey though . You could fix some d-rings to the changing table and use a regular over the shoulder harness (which you could use for highchair, pushchair or as reins later) or use a mat on the floor instead.

bum, this ?

crazycanuck · 20/10/2005 13:55

ooh, thanks LIZS, that is what I meant but I really like your idea about the do-it-yourself version! Flutterbye I have tried changing ds on the floor but he is so determined to roll over and get busy that it turns into a huge struggle that ends in tears! by the time he's out of nappies I will probably be the most dextrous (sp?) nappy changer around!

Try singing to him, pulling silly faces and giving him small, washable toys to hold (not fluffy precious ones that will be spoilt if they get an accidental dipping in a less than fragrant nappy ). Or try tickling him under the chin.

My DS is a wriggler when he has his nappy changed and if I strapped him down, he'd be really cross - you wouldn't solve the problem, I don't think.

crazycanuck, how old is he? Both mine have been wrigglers but ds1 did realise after a while that it was all over with quickly if he just let me get on with it. So there's hope! ds2 is 10.5 months and still at the very wriggly stage. It's a bit of a nightmare but TBH I find those changing stations in shops where you can strap them in the worst - both mine have really taken exception to being strapped down and have tried even harder to escape. I favour the floor as a changing station - at least they can't roll off. But I do know where you're coming from!

Know where you are coming from, my ds is now becoming a wriggler at 9.5months. Have moved his top cot changer on the floor now, as I had visions of him falling!
I usually give him the wipes packet or a nappy to play with, or put his trousers on his face and play peek a boo.
Must say - that harness looks expensive!!

crazycanuck · 20/10/2005 15:13

he is 7 months next week and has only become this wriggly in the past week! it's a joy to have such an active child but a trial sometimes as well! I'm learning that it comes with the territory, he being my first and all,
