I wait until their current shoes are too tight before I get new ones - sometimes they have gone up 1 1/2 sizes!!

When they go up a whole size you need new ones.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 03/03/2011 08:23

I didn't realise that. DD has 6.5 shoes from this time last year. Took her last week and one foot was a 7 so I bought new ones. Not bothered as it's only once a year that I bother with Clarks, she spends all winter in wellies or little boots from Next but still

bebemooneedsabreak · 03/03/2011 08:26

With dd we do, as she's got one toe which goes over the other if the toes pinch at all... we always buy her shoes half a size big too. DD is quite particular about her shoes tho and will also say when they're 'tight'
If you've not got any foot troubles with your dds feet or her complaining I'd hold off, especially at this time of the year; you'll be wanting sandals or the like rather soon.

No - think culturally we are far too obsessive about the size/width of feet. Shoes are fitted with growing room. Don't automatically ask for a remeasure ask them (or learn yourself) to check if current shoes still fit. A good shoe shop should not sell you new shoes for the sake of it.

I go in regularly and get them to check if the DSs shoes still fit. If the shoes still have room to grow, then I don't get new ones, but if they don't, then I do. It's hard to tell just by size. DS1 has been in the same pair of shoes for 9 months, despite monthly measuring because they still have plenty of room. I keep expecting that he will wake up one morning with feet that have doubled in size...
