Peugeot 207, Vauxhall Corsa, Honda Jazz or Ford Focus?

Looking at cars for our first family car and would be interested to see what other Mumsnetters think between the Peugeot 207, Vauxhall Corsa, Honda Jazz or Ford Focus...

Basically it needs to be a reliable car that will fit me and DP, DD (aged 8) and DS (aged 13 months) in the car and cheap to run, I originally thought the Ford Focus would be the best option but DP keeps on giving me new suggestions!

Our budget is around £6000

TIA

Ford Focus without a doubt. I had one for 8 years and it never gave me one second's trouble. Was lovely to drive as well. Have also had a Corsa and it was awful, felt like it was going to tip over at every corner! We currently have a Peugeot 307 which is obviously a bit bigger than the 207. It's fine and a decent enough car but doesn't fill me with joy like my Focus did. Have never had a Honda so can't comment.

The Corsa, Jazz and 206 are all small cars though, a lot smaller than the Focus. There endeth my extremely scientific and unbiased contribution Wink :o

I'd suggest the 207, Corsa and Jazz are all a bit small for a family car? I had a Focus C-Max (small people carrier). Very practical -3 separate (& removable) seats in the back. Good sized boot. Comfortable too.

Only downside- economy from the 2.0 litre diesel was v poor and you can't disable passenger air bag (so no child seat in the front).

Colleague has a Peugeot 307 SW- 1.6 diesel- it's been practical, economical and reliable. Some of the mechanicals are a bit over complicated though so worth avoiding high milage examples in case of problems.

My favourites- VW/Audi.

I test drove a few cars before buying mine recently, so here's my opinion;

The Jazz felt a bit flimsy inside and lacks oomph. Also very ugly inside. The dashboard was a bit early learning centre without the primary colours.

The 207 is nice inside, very comfy and sturdy feeling. Some nice features too, automatic wipers and headlights which both come on without prompting when needed. Cruise control (I seem to remember), bluetooth phone do dah, some have a panoramic glass roof which is really nice and something I would try to get if I were going for one of these cars.

I had a Corsa as a replacement car when someone drove into me a few years ago. It handled a bit like a wheelbarrow full of water and like GwendolineMaryLacey said, it felt like it was about to tip over when cornering.

I didn't try a Focus as it was too big for my parking area outside my flat but they have a great reputation.

I bought a Suzuki Swift because it was good fun to drive, had good safety reports, cute looking, reliable (can't go wrong with Japanese), deceptively spacious inside and compact outside.

If I had the space I would probably have gone for a Honda Civic Type S, I had an older Civic before and it was very nice to drive and super reliable. The most fun car I have ever had.

Jazz always comes ouy best in customer satisfaction surveys. Wouldn't touch a Never had a Ford so can't comment but I think the Focus is teh biggest of those

Peugeot 207, Loved my 206 with a passion, was given it by one of the mums at school when mine broke, my dad drove it for a bit which was funny

Vauxhall Corsa, my b/f had one and loved it zoomed around in it

Honda Jazz no idea

or Ford Focus...drove one once and thought it was crappy sorry
