... what's the best value sledge? Only after plastic really!

Are Slider pans any good (thinking of storage here)?

I bought one of these when I went skiing in Bulgaria years ago.
They are great fun, and to my mind seem less dangerous - you don't have so far to fall.
I loved it - mine is still hanging up in the cupboard!!
Go get one

SoupDragon · 19/10/2005 08:26

Will need one per family member, obviously

Great fun but please make sure helmets worn. Cycle helmets will do.

A Mum at my DS's school died last year after a sledding accident.

SoupDragon · 19/10/2005 09:56

Yep. Have cycle helmets and will be gettting new waterproof trousers for DSs from Muddy Puddles (hence the incentive to buy the sled things from there!)

God, how awful!
I can't see my children doing much careening down hills but I imagine they would like being pulled around on one with a rope.
I keep hearing we're going to have a really cold winter so get your orders in now!

LIZS · 19/10/2005 10:01

They are great - we have some Hamax ones which are similar. You do need a fairly steep pitch to get them going though and don't use on a thin layer of snow as they aren't very thick so you get a bruised bum and they crack easily.

laughinglil · 19/10/2005 10:03

its meant to be the coldest winter for 10 years this year! oh no!

cupcakes · 19/10/2005 10:04

Urchin have some good sledges. I like the timber sledge and the baby luge.

SoupDragon · 19/10/2005 10:06

YEs, the timber sledge is great but £90!!

this looks fun

cupcakes · 19/10/2005 10:07

Yes, you'd need to get a lot of snow for your money!

SoupDragon · 19/10/2005 10:11

£145! Not worth it for British snow

this site has the Hamax ones at a better price. We also have a Hamax Sno-horse toboggan which is palstic with a steering wheel and brake.

here is a toboggan and here is another slightly cheaper wooden sledge

MrsDoolittle · 19/10/2005 11:15

I agree the timber sledges look lovely. However, they are nasty if you have an accident with one, you need very thick snow. My sister broke her collar bone when she was hit with a wooden sledge!

Yikes. Think I want to find a big plastic toboggan which I can pull ds and dd on.

ScarySkribble · 19/10/2005 21:26

My DS nearly broke another boys shin bone with his wooden sledge. I thought the boys bones were sticking out until I realised that the dad had already put some snow on it . So next time we will stick to light weight ones I like the fact the pan ones are easy for the kids to carry back up them selves.
