i don't understand computers so need a good broadband provider that also supports applemac. i use the computer for email and internet though hopefully when i get enough time and courage would like to try selling on ebay. can anyone advise as dial up pay as you go is becoming very expensive. could anyone tell me what i need to do. are some broadband set ups easier than others? i have an ibook that is 4/5 years old and use osx safari if that makes sense. my computer has reduced me to tears before as i managed to lose the harddrive once - don't know how so i am loathe to press more buttons than i need to.

shrub, I don't think it makes any difference. We have an iMac an iBook, an ancient PC (mine) and a linux box running off our broadband connection. dh sorts these things out but we are on a standard ntl connection with a wireless router. I would find a provider that you think has the sort of rate that you want and then ring them up and ask them how to set it up for your mac.

thanks nooka- i looked into ntl but we don't get cable where i am.
pruni - have been looking into zen. seems very expensive but good with macs. did you have to pay for set up? i did use to have aol dial up but my computer kept crashing and i couldn't get the paypal pages for my other expensive habit - ebay! went to have it changed and computer technician told me it was because of aol? can this be true - don't know whether to trust them as someone told me it might have been the older operating system which i think was 9 or not enough memory?

Hi shrub, I've recommended these people to several on MN. I use A&A, all my family use them. They support Macs and are clued up. Not the cheapest, but IMHO amongst the best. You can use any ISP, your Mac will work, but these guys are clued up and helpful and won't be scared if you call and say 'I can't get my e-mail working on my Mac'. I've had bad experiences with BT.

HTH

If you search archives for my name and Mac or broadband or A&A etc. you'll probably find bits of info.

Hi Pruni, all well although dd gave us a scare last night but she slept fine and just fed no probs....

I'm sorting through several hundred photos of dd and hope to stick up an album shortly.

we're using macs, have a ibook too. have gone for talktalk for broadband and phone all in one package. setup was really easy, you can do it by logging on to their website and it take you through in 4 stages. about a week later the modem arrived with a disk which again was really easy to set up. we pay £24.99 a month for broadband and free off peak calls. still pay line rental to bt but for us, altogether its cheaper.
