bump, am also trying to choose!

ernest · 22/10/2005 13:39

I test drove practically every one on the market & chose the peugeot 807. 2 years on I still love it & haven't regretted my choice. Any specific questions?

We have a Fiat Ulysses (sp?) and it has been great. Lots of power, reliable, not too pricey. Loads of room inside and very comfortable seats. Would definately recommend it.

katymac · 22/10/2005 13:49

I like my Uylesse too (but hate dealing with Fiat)

Lucyfercat · 22/10/2005 13:56

What model of Ulysse have you got posh & katiemac?

myturntobeposh · 22/10/2005 13:58

People will be thinking I am Victoria Beckham if you call me Posh lol.

As to model, have absolutely no idea. It is red if that helps.....

JanH · 22/10/2005 14:01

What's your budget and how many people do you need to transport on a regular basis?

Lucyfercat · 22/10/2005 14:07

lol posh!! do you not fancy being mistaken for VB? ok a red car, does it have any numbers on the back?

myturntobeposh · 22/10/2005 14:10

Other than the reg?? Is 2.0 but know nothing else. I am useless when it comes to cars. Suppose I shouldn't worry for being mistaken for Vicky - I am sounding just as dim as her. (Wish I was just as rich and thin instead...)

katymac · 22/10/2005 14:25

Eleganza (maybe?)
It's light green & Automatic

anchovies · 22/10/2005 14:32

Am currently thinking a scenic or a c-max?

Budget upto about 9k (used obviously) and only four of us regularly but 2 babies and so need lots of boot space.

milward · 22/10/2005 14:40

have a renault grand espace - 7 seats plus room in the back for pushchair & bags. Great car - comfy, fits all our car seats as each seat is a proper size.

milward · 22/10/2005 14:41

anchovies - also have a scenic - although doesn't fit the 4 kids now. HAs a large boot & fits 3 car seats in easy - would recommend it.

calpopscalum · 22/10/2005 14:52

love love love my zafira, loadsa boot space when I need that or all 7 seats out if I need that! The seats fold down under the middle ones so you don't need to store them elsewhere. Dead easy to drive, low on fuel consumption and Vauxhall are fine to deal with. Would buy another one.

Passionkiller · 22/10/2005 15:09

Have a VW touran, lovely to drive but I don't kow what I'm going to trade it for next cos it hasn't been very reliable. It's had a new steering rack and a new ignition cylinder and it's only 18mts old .

JanH · 22/10/2005 16:42

anchovies, I would second the Zafira for you - plenty of room for 4 of you and massive boot space with 3rd row down, and when your children are older you can carry lots of friends as well. No longer than an ordinary estate but a bit higher. The Scenic has very flexible seating but only 5 seats, and the Espace/Ulysse type is much bigger.

Mine is a 2002 diesel, really nice to drive and my Vauxhall dealer is lovely.

You'd be best off getting the improved version that came out in 2003 - prior to that the middle seat only had a lapbelt - I think you would have to look for a 53 reg or later though. There are loads of them about which makes it much easier to find one you like at a good price!

Or you could consider the Fiat Multipla , 6 seats in 2 rows of 3 and a good luggage space. They are v popular too. You'd have to really love the look though

JanH · 22/10/2005 16:48

OTOH if you really want a huge one I would get a Toyota Previa You can also look out for the Lucida or Estima which is the same car but imported from Japan - still RHD but different spec.

FeelingOld · 22/10/2005 17:13

I have a Fiat Ulysses too, mine is a 2 litre diesel model and I love it, I am a childminder and some days I have 3 toddlers all in car seats, 1 school age child in booster type seat with a back on and 2 school age children on booster seats plus 3 lots of school bags, a single buggy, a double buggy , 2 raincovers and a changing bag (and me of course ). Not bad eh?? I really like my car and when I can afford a newer one I would buy another fiat ulysses.
In the past I have also owned a renault espace and I liked that too.

Lucyfercat · 22/10/2005 18:07

Would you opt for the Esapace or Ulysses given the choice? We have to be able to fit lots of camping stuff in as well!

JanH · 22/10/2005 19:44

The Espace has (or had) a fibreglass body which means no rust but lots of crumbled bits - possibly worth considering!

The Ulysse is the same car as the Peugeot 806 and the Citroen Synergie . It is known "fondly" by the motoring press as the Fiat Useless (The Multipla is the "Useful")

Oooh, this is good - all the MPVs on one page!

anchovies · 23/10/2005 10:30

Thanks Jan, the link with them all on is just what I needed, plenty to go at isn't there!

Am going to the vauxhall dealer today to have a look at a zafira, quite like the look of the renault grand scenic as well.

ernest · 23/10/2005 12:42

I personally didn't like the zaphira. If all seats are used there's hardly an inch of free space, plus the back 2 seats were extremely cramped even for our 4 & 5 yr olds. No way would you get a pushchair or anything in. And not only cramped, felt very unsafe being right in the boot.
The renault is good, but i didn't like the 'normal' doors so ruled it out. The slidey doors on the Peugeot (& Citroen C8) are a real plus - fantastic. All the seats in the Peugeot are full size too & v. comfy. We tend to keep all seats in & have the back 2 folded up so have enormaous boot space. Still enough boot space with all 7 seats in use for pushchair suitcases etc
