Don't know anything about autism - but as for exposing to language - would leap pad thingy toys help there? Or perhaps lots of story tapes (DD1 has a CD every night (in my mothertongue to try and "brainwash" her...)

going against the grain as usual....I think you can't go far wrong with toy kitchens, actually. it doesn't need to have the bells and whistles - so i'd buy whichever is cheapest.
