I need a new gas cooker - how do I begin to choose?

That's it really. Need a new one but never bought one new before.

We grill quite a bit and use the hob all the time. Don't do much in the oven but it's ocassionally needed. Want something reliable and long-lasting. Doesn't have to be mega cheap but we're talking High St prices here not Agas/Ranges/fancy stuff.

Looks-wise, not sure as we'll get kitchen replaced sooner or later. In fact, that's something else. If you were planning to replace your kitchen would you wait & get a fitted oven or buy a stnd alone now anyway?

Any suggestions? THanks.

I'd get a stand alone. Then, if you move house, you can take it with you!

Why don't you wait for the sales? I got a Stoves gas cooker (big range thingy - DH is a chef!) - I know you don't want a range type, but we got it reduced from £1,000 to £600 in the sales last Jan.

If you use the grill a lot, i wouldn't get an oven which has the grill within it, I would get one with a proper grill. OR a built in double oven in which the top one is a good grill. Grills in a knee-level oven in which you have to have the oven door open when the grill is in use are a complete pain IME!

MamaG - are range types always huge? Space is a factor for me. Needs to be 600mm width max.

Blu - good point about the grill. I don't want one where the door has to be open all the time - not safe for 4yo & baby. I like the fact that now I can grill things and the heat is nowhere near where the kids can reach.

Just talked to DP and he says I only think we grill alot cos we do on a weekend. I'm at work Mon-Fri so I don't see what kind of cooking he does!
He has a point. So, we want a double oven & hob. All gas.

Anyone what make is reliable these days?

Ours is quite huge - two ovens, separate grill and a pan cupboard thingy, plus 8 burners, but I know that you can get them smaller, either the size of a "normal" oven, of with 6 burners. Ours is all gas. Stoves are an excellent make at a reasonable price, not sure about any of the other makes though, can only go by this one. I had a built in DeLonghi before we moved and that was OK, and cheap - but the grill was in the oven compartment.

Try searching for uk-appliances on Google or similar, they have all the brands listed.

bump for the evening crowd.

What's a good make of gas cooker then?

Walked past Argos today, they have 20% of all ovens, would be worth a look

Thanks MamaG. I'll check what they've got.
