Game for a 5 yr old girl - ideas/links please!

I would like to buy my 5 yr old a game for Christmas but she has lots already - junior scrabble, monopoly, operation, mousetrap, charades, fishing game - all the standards. Are the Bratz games any good? they seem a bit grown up for her. She's not really very girly and she is bright. Any ideas for games that might challenge her but be fun too? Thanks!

Rush Hour

tantrix

Milliways · 15/10/2005 22:13

this is addictive, and they can play alone if you need some peace!

how about bop_it

It might be a boyish, my nephews have it, but I love it.

roisin · 15/10/2005 22:14

Both challenging and a bit different.

roisin · 15/10/2005 22:16

Kid - what does the bop it do? How do you play with it? Can you explain a bit as the Argos description doesn't make a lot of sense to me!

soapbox · 15/10/2005 22:16

Roisin - just been looking at rush hour in the Brainwaves catalogue - is it good???

roisin · 15/10/2005 22:19

Rush hour is fab - someone on here recommended it to me.

My boys also like www.brightminds.co.uk/default.asp?part=B5904\shape by shape} and blokus

Milliways · 15/10/2005 22:19

Bop it is great, my DD is 14 & still plays with it. when it comes out everyone wants a go. Also,
lights out - but that is prob. too hard for a 5yr old.

roisin · 15/10/2005 22:20

Whoops! shape by shape

roisin · 15/10/2005 22:21

Soapbox - rush hour is completely addictive. Especially when the kids can do it better than you can, but you never get chance to practice

kid · 15/10/2005 22:24

The bop it is really addictive. It tells you to turn, push, pull or click (I think) and each section of the toy does this action. The aim is to get the moves right. IIRC it gets faster so you don't get bored of it, you just get better with practice. I can't wait till my kids are old enough for one

frannykenstein · 15/10/2005 22:24

You didn't mention Frustration or Sorry - they are great fun, although not very cerebral.

Great Game of Britain is marvellous, too.

roisin · 15/10/2005 22:28

I like the look/sound of that kid. But does it make really irritating electronic noises?

nutcackle · 15/10/2005 22:30

Don't get the Bratz games, they are very hard, fiddly and rubbish IMO.

kid · 15/10/2005 22:35

I didn't find the noise irritating, it plays music so has quite a good beat to go with it. You can always get your DD to play it in her room if you did find it annoying!

helloween · 17/10/2005 19:44

Thanks - some great ideas! Thought we might end up with the Bratz game. Is the great game of Britain a bit old?

Hulabaloo is a fun activity one which they can do on their own or with friends. Ravensburger do great basic strategy games - Labyrinth is a classic in various versions (not heard of this particular site btw but shows the dirffernt games well!).

frannykenstein · 17/10/2005 20:35

Great Game of Britain is ancient - I used to have a set myself and loved it to bits. They've brought it back though! here you go
