No difference in what they do. All the same. I'm sure it's a ploy to encourage the kids to want to 'collect' all the colours!

gameboy colour is the older version but gameboy advance and afterwards are the more up to date.
First game boy advance came out about 3 yrs ago and has been updated since think its the game boy advance sp

It started with Gameboy, then GB Colour, then GB Advance (looks like a tiny laptop, came out about 3 years ago, maybe) and now Nintendo DS. GBA is back-lit, I think, and the graphics are better than GB Colour. I'm not exactly an expert though

gameboy colour, is the bigger, old fashioned one, with a smaller screen and the gameboy advance (i assume sp as thats the most current gameboy, although now have the nintendo ds as well but that is very expensive imo) is small, folds in half, comes in funky colours designs, has the small game paks that you can use the older bigger gamepaks on too.

and thats about it really, apart from easier to buy advance games rather than coulour as newer format, although gameboy colour ones cheaper to buy second hand.

My answer was assuming you meant gameboy advance and the fact they come in silver, blue, silver tribal and pink?!!

tamum · 13/10/2005 21:20

Nemo got there first! The games are backward compatible BTW, but not forward because each one is more sophisticated than the previous one.

We bought the 2 lads Gameboy Colours years ago, brand new from Toys R Us which are oblong up & down. Xmas 2003 we bought Gameboy Advances, oblong side to side, which were 2nd hand from GAME. We had to visit numerous shops to get the best ones, but paid around £30 for each unit. The Gamboy Advance will play games from the older Gameboy Colour range along with the Gameboy Advance games.
We Drew the line at Gameboy SP, as this is just a Gameboy Advance in a different case but has re-chargeable battery and a screen backlight. The problem with the SP is that is doesn't take normal batteries whereas the Gamboy Advance does. Re-chargeable batteries are reasonably cheaper, and charge a lot quicker. The DS is the new one (Dual Screen) which I don't know much about, but wouldn't give one to a young child based on the condition of the demo unit I saw which had a damaged screen yet it was only a few days old. The screen is a touch screen with a pen.

DS has a Nintendo DS, He hasn't managed to break the screen yet, but because he dribbles (due to Cerebral Palsy) the top screen is a bit wet on the inside.
