Yeah there is one way to protect your card, I take mine out (it doesn't need to be in all the time) We've had 2 replacments already the staff at sky have been very understanding about it.

I just put it in when I first change the channel and take it out about 5 mins later, it works most of the time without a card anyway so it's not always necessary.

That or you could do what they used to do in days of old and cut the offenders hands off.... extreme I know but will save you lots of trouble in future. I keep threatening ds with this, he thinks it's funny but one day .......

Northerner · 09/09/2003 12:32

If there is one I want one too! We have NTL and our card is kept behind a little door on the box thingy. Ds hadn't ever noticed it was there before untill we had a problem with the service and I had to ring customer servicse who instruted me to take out the card and re insert. Which I did, under the watchful eye of 18 month old ds. Guess what his favourite game is now?!!

Janstar · 09/09/2003 12:33

That's fine Jenie, if you want to keep wiping his bum for him until he gets married

DebL · 09/09/2003 12:38

tape over card in the slot with electrical type sticky tape!!

Jenie · 09/09/2003 12:48

Janstar - Yeah hadn't thought of that There must be something......I know I could tape his fingers together with the electrical sticky tape that Debl suggested

Eve · 09/09/2003 14:23

...the chaps who installed my dish suggested that I could use a pen to mark along the card where it meets the box, then cut of the bit that sticks out.

Obviously thieving children is a common problem!

SofiaAmes · 09/09/2003 23:59

I threatened ds with never ever being able to watch his Thomas the Tank Engine video or CBeebies again if he took the card out again. It seems to have worked (it's been a month now).

ForestFly · 10/09/2003 00:08

Ive covered everything with electrical wire, you get a good lie in as well

SoupDragon · 10/09/2003 08:18

Less than a minute after arriving at my parents' house, DS2 had located the Sky card, removed it and reinserted in the wrong slot without us seeing him.

doormat · 10/09/2003 09:20

Like DebL says use electrical tape to stick it in place.
Sky engineer told us to use that as our ds3 kept on biting on the microchip, destroyed 2 cards (one was at xmas no sky for 2 weeks.

wickedstepmother · 10/09/2003 10:41

We have a similar prob with our DD, who has also just discovered how to turn the tv off by pressing the button. We have resorted to putting the footstool in front of the boxes when DD is on a rampage, thank goodness it's a big one ! Unfortunately it does mean that you have to contort yourself into all manner of positions to change the channel on sky ! Oh the price of parenthood.....

Philippat · 10/09/2003 10:48

mothercare (I think) do a shield that does all the way across the front rather than just in the video slot. It works for our sky box although dd does tend to hang off it rather.... Our big problem now is stopping her from pouring her juice on the top of it....

cut off the bit that sticks out so they cant get a hold of it,my friend who works in sky gave me this advice after me telling her about my dd doing exactly the same thing.seemingly all the sky workers have a box at their desk to watch while working(great job huh) and the edges are cut off all the cards to stop the workers helping themselves to them.

with tweezers?

Loobie · 14/09/2003 11:18

yes janster with tweezers it comesout quite easily

WedgiesMum · 14/09/2003 22:55

I use a big plastic laundry basket that goes over and completely covers the skybox and the video box. The basket has lots of holes so the heat escapes and the fits between the boxes and the tv with not much room for movement and it's difficult to actually take it off unless you take about 5 minutes and move everything round.
