Electric Toothbrush

Just been to my dentist and he recommended an electric toothbrush. Have always been a bit sceptical of these but if it helps keep the dental bills down I'm willing to give it a go.
He said the proper rechargeable ones are best rather than the battery ones and suggested Braun. Said it was OK for all the kids too.

Is this just Dentist Talk? Should I save my pennies?

Also there are five of us so would need to distinguish 5 heads. Can you get them in different colour etc? How does everyone else manage.

Other drawback is that only one person will be able to clean their teeth at any one time therefore bedtime will take longer!

Views, suggestions etc please

I have battery operated toothbrushes for me and DH - they are fantastic, I just don't feel like I have clean teeth if I use a manual one now! I don't remember them being too expensive either. You can get different heads in different colours for the electric ones too. They take some getting used to though - they made me cringe at first.

They're fantastic, I was never able to do my back teeth without gagging, but with an electric toothbrush I can. DDs 2 and 4 also use them and they have a timer so I know how long they've been brushing for (although admittedly, unless I'm watching, could be lots of brushing on one tooth!!).

Did any of you find that they made you feel strange (sort of dizzy/fuzzy headed??!!) or is that just me?
Must admit I did only use it once as I felt so odd after that I never used it again .

As a dentist I would really recommend electric over manual. The Braun range are very good (particularly the sonic ones). However with 5 of you really you need to think about getting 2 or 3 (the basic braun oralB with the rotating heads can be picked up quite cheaply from argos etc). Also it is best if you have means to keep them plugged in (shaving socket in the bathroom) as with that much use you will find the battery goes dead quite quickly)
