Anyone got one? - any good / would you recommend?

Any drawbacks?

Gobbledispook · 11/10/2005 10:15

Ooh, I really want one of these! Haven't got one though so can't help!

handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 10:19

Maybe someone will have one....

My biggest worry is parking (!) as it is bigger and bulkier than my current car.....

Friend had one and loved the car to drive and the space (she has 4 kids under 6) but the power steering went within 6 months . Also it seemed a real hassle to get the kids in and out of the back row, especially as 2 were still in fixed car seats.

handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 10:25

Blimey re the power steering! - hopefully a one off. Must ask dealership some tough questions about that.

SoupDragon · 11/10/2005 10:25

Ugly looking front too

handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 10:33

Do you think? I thought it was fairly attractive...

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 11/10/2005 10:34

Too bulbous for my liking.

Gobbledispook · 11/10/2005 10:36

I like it but prefer the Lexus RX300. Can't afford one though - just admire my fathers!

SoupDragon · 11/10/2005 10:38

Yep, I have a hankering for a Lexus RX 400h

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 11/10/2005 10:57

I rented one for a week as we were taking my parents away on holiday.

Rear seats are very clever, they disappear into the floor BUT don't use a baby seat in them

DS went in them he is 10 years and could climb and do his own belt up etc.

DEFFO BRILL sound system.

liked the split level boot door.

rear park asssist was good

The one we hired didn't come with all the gadgets and toys that our XC70 has

RTI + TV,{satelitte navagation and television} 2 integrated telephones, etc.

It had geartronic gears which is the same as our XC70

The sliding rear seats {middle row is good}

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 11/10/2005 10:59

what is your current car?

how many DS and DD do you have and ages?

Parking was fine but I love reverse parking

had to make sure aspaces in car parks were wide enough iyswim

handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 11:06

I have just the two children but I am planning an addition soon-ish!

BMW5 series currently which is a big car, but not as wide (6 inches less or so) and I think not quite so long

My two have baby seats currently so would be okay in the row directly behind driver seat rather than back seats?...and by the time I have no. 3 baby, then dd (currently 3) will be 4+ and will not need a stage 2 fixed car seat but just a booster so could go in back seat?

OP posts:
LIZS · 11/10/2005 11:09

Same friend had a BMW 5 series estate when she had just the three !

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 11/10/2005 11:23

deffo go for it then

but get all the toys

the seats in 2nd row would be good for your back because it is high up and so won't be bending down to strap them up

Mind you I love VOLVOs

handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 11:25

Lizs - well personally I would find that too squashy - plis the Beamers boot is quite small so not much space for baby and child paraphernalia.

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 11:25

that was meant to say 'plus'

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 11:26

Mine's not an estate though - it's a saloon

OP posts:
Enid · 11/10/2005 11:29

we craved one of these for a while but I think we are going to go for the BMW estate for dh and a vw sharan for me.

Friends have the XC90 and it is gorge but actually I think a people carrier is prob more useful (for dropping friends etc and loads of kit)

Enid · 11/10/2005 11:30

sorry meant to say when we (cross fingers) eventually have 3 kids next summer

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 11/10/2005 11:36

The main reason we love VOLVOS is because of the safety

SoupDragon · 11/10/2005 11:39

The "new" Renault Laguna is just as safe as a Volvo though and not as ugly

Furball · 11/10/2005 11:49

We're a two volvo family! Dh had an S60 (which I've now got) for a while and then decided on something more sporty and went for an A3, which because of the travelling he does (20,000/year) he ended up being sooo uncomfortable in the Audi that he had to sell it and he then got an XC90. Fab car, very comfy, does the miles. Ds goes on the booster seat in the middle - we bought the extra support bits. However, we bought an ex demo so it was fairly new. But it has had a few hiccups. The cruise control gave up, which they denied a fault even though it wouldn't work. They then contacted Volvo HQ and yes, there was starting to get faults with it filtering through so they've fixed it and now the 'brake assist' is faulty and thats going to be done tommorrow. So even though it's a really nice car it's been marred abit by it's problems which you don't expect for that money. But, apart from that it's great. I've got a feeling there's something else but I can't think what at the minute.

hub2dee · 11/10/2005 11:51

I think we're a little put off by the pedestrian safety implications of crashes in 4X4s / SUVs... but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

I think it's a looker, and it gets good reviews.

RTKM: Have you ever had a good look at a V50 ?

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 11/10/2005 11:52

SD are you mad ??????????????

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 11/10/2005 11:53

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO small for me

I love my XC70
