Graco Quattro- yes or no?

I am on the lookout for a sturdy pram for the winter as not only does dd look squashed when wearing her coat in her maclaren, but I've managed to break the damn thing and the quote they gave me in Mothercare to repair it is ridiculous. I've seen the graco quattro for quite reasonable prices on ebay and wondered if anyone has any experience of them. The seat looks quite roomy and padded, are they as comfy as they look? Also is the raincover any good, as dd hates her feet being trapped by the one on her quest. I need something quite hardwearing as its a couple of miles to nursery and I don't relish the thought of walking it in the winter! Also, is the shopping basket big enough to fit a fair few books and folders in? Sorry for all the questions, but I can't go out and look at them for myself, as I've come down with tonsillitus and feel horrible
Any experience, good or bad, or any other recommendation for under £100 is very welcome
TIA,
Littlelamb

how old is dd?

littlelamb · 10/10/2005 18:59

Ah sorry, she's only 15 months, so its quite ridiculous how big she looks in her maclaren, but her coat is quite padded, we're right on the coast and it gets FREEZING

what about this?

littlelamb · 10/10/2005 19:10

Thats just the kind of thing I'm looking for thanks. But do you know how good they are to push? Obviously I'm probably going to get something heavier than the quest, but do you think it would be easy to push one handed if dd wanted to walk and hld my hand?

they are heavier to push one handed, i dont hyave one, but did look at the maxim instore and it seemed easy to push. for real ease of pushing one handed, then one of the mothercare swivel 3 wheelers are fab, but a bit more. they have a red one for 130 atm.

I've got one!
Ds is only 4 months and I've already bought a Maclaren. The Graco is great for walking, excellent for shopping(has an enormous basket!),BUT we got one as it took up so much room in the car.We even went out and bought a new car because of it.
Seriously though ds finds it very comfortable, the rain cover is fab and covers the whole thing and if you want it just to shop and walk with I'd say go for it!
HTH.

bubbaloo · 10/10/2005 20:46

We got one-meaning the Maclaren.

littlelamb · 10/10/2005 21:07

Thanks a lot, I think I will go and have a push of one when I'm better so I know whether or not to bid on one. I love my maclaren just because its so light and easy and small, and I wouldn't be without it, but I don't drive so the smallness isn't really an issue. Pushability up hills is! (i think I just made up a new word!)

It is very big,but I find it very nice to push.Must admit I love the Maclaren(only got it on friday),but the shopping basket is useless-you can't even get to it.The Graco one is huge.I've had 2 packs of nappies, large cartons of formula, bread and catfood in mine and there's still room for more.

littlelamb · 10/10/2005 21:16

That sounds perfect- getting shopping home is really a problem for me, and I've had enough of the useless maclaren basket! Thats how I broke it, I tried to put something in the basket and one of the clips that recline the seat broke, so now one side just flops, which dd just finds so uncomfortable. Persumably, its only a broken spring or something, but mothercare quoted me £45 to fix it ffs !

Blimey.

LIZS · 10/10/2005 21:29

Email Maclaren direct - they sent me replacement springs for the closing clip free of charge a few years back

littlelamb · 10/10/2005 21:36

Wow thank you! I'll do that right now. Thank you so much

Hiya, personally I wouldn't touch a Graco - very cheap & poor quality .....I had one for dd when she was born & it drove me mad....rattle, rattle, rattle! Very heavy & took up all the boot space. Shopping basket was great though . Anyway, got fed up with everyone being able to hear me coming a mile off and traded it in......for.....a Maclaren Techno . If you're looking for something easy to push, I would personally go for a 3 wheeler. You'll find the graco very heavy to push compared to the Maclaren!

sweetkitty · 10/10/2005 22:40

I'm the same as ionaming bought the Graco have hardly used it as it's too big and bulky, it was great when DD was newborn as was roomy and she could lie flat, took up the whole boot though. The lock for one of the swivel wheels broke the first time I used it though.

It's great for walking though and the shopping basket is fab too, the tray would be good for toddlers too.

I have a XT now and love it as it's so light and easy. Pity you don't live close to me I would give you my Graco!
