Mooncups & Washable ( st) pads

muddyangels123 · 27/01/2011 10:50

Due to getting fed up with using disposable sanitary pads, they make me sore.Angry I have ordered some washable/reuseable pads instead.
I also came across Mooncups.
Can anyone tell me if they are good and do they work?
Thanks in advance x

Yes they are and yes they do!

I found it felt a bit odd at first, as I was used to tampons which leave you feeling very dry - the mooncup allows some of the natural secretions to still be there so I spent the first few months being paranoid it was leaking and wearing a liner as well as I wasn't as dry.....it never did leak though so I stopped using liners as well.

I am pregnant at the moment but fully intend to return to using the mooncup and plan to never need to buy tampons again. Yay!

It is really easy to put in - I cut all the stem off once I got the hang of it. Taking out is fine as long as you do it slowly and carefully! (I have managed to avoid the 'pinging' over the bathroom so far!). It is easy to clean as well.

Go for it!

I use both. I usually use the pads as they are so soft and comfy (I've got those minkee/velour ones).
But I'll use a mooncup for swimming etc.

Thanks, Kirstyjc.
I never knew that you could get anything like the mooncup.
I have had so many problems with disposable pads. So i was recommended by my GP to look into washable ones.
It's only taken me 30 years of af to find them.Blush
I think i will order a mooncup then,i wasn't sure if they actually worked.Confused
Goes off to order oneGrin
Thanks

I have e-mailed them as i'm not sure what size. I had all DC via ELCS. I am 41.
Do i go for A or B.

I love my mooncup! It was fine as soon as I cut the whole stem off, but it's worth getting used to taking it out before cutting off the whole stem. They're so much cleaner and somehow less invasive than tampons. They don't leak at all if fitted properly.

They have pretty clear guidelines on the mooncup website about sizing - one of the sizes is if you are under 30 without giving birth vaginally and the other is for if you are over 30 or have had children by vaginal birth. I think maybe A is for over 30s but you should check.

One handy hint is to carry a small bottle of water for rinsing in case you are out and don't have access to a sink when you need to clean it.

I have had one for about 7 years, it's great

Well, i've had fun trying to get one today.
Tried to buy the mooncup (A) on Boots, but couldn't use my advantage points to buy it.Angry. Only in store.
So i asked a friend in the next town if they had them in her Boots. They do, i am off there tomorrow to pick it up.Grin
