DFS sofas need some advice on where we stand??

We brought a sofa from dfs in sept 2004 we got it on a years free credit and then we could pay instalments from sept 2005. Anyway instead of the instalments we paid the whole amount off at beginning of sept. So all was fine and bill paid.

Anway we have a 3 setter sofa and a 1 setter, i have noticed that where the 1 setter gets used more than the 3 the thread on it is starting to wear, also there is a patch where the thread has actually frayed on the actual seat.

So i have phoned Dfs and i spoke to a lady as when i brought the sofa i also paid extra for it to be scotch guarded as this was strongly advised in the shop, (i do not believe this has been done) as they said you can wipe stains off and it has a stain on it that ds done with juice and i can not get it off.

Anyway back to the lady i called today i explained the situation said i had, had the sofa for 1 yr 1 month and explained what had happened to it i said the 3 setter was fine and i am more than happy with this, she explained that they will send someone round to have a look at the chair but she also said they will be looking at my house and the way i live??? i found this very insulting, i though a sofa was suppost to last 5 years? is there a certain way you are ment to be liveing then when you buy a DFS sofa?

So i will be waiting for my phone call and expect my dfs visit soon, what i want to know is where do i stand and what can i do about this? she said they do not cover for fabric wear but surly a sofa should last longer than 1 yr ??

Any advice appriciated TIA

I think they should last longer than a year but our DFS sofas looked crap after just a few months -- the leather is very sticky and marked with fine hair lines where our heads rest... I doubtthey will last 5 years before the leather splits... NEVER EVER buy them from there again...

their cst service said we must have stuff on our hair to cause this... but we are totally and utterly unstyled in our house..

Well i think they are just damn right rude trying to blame it on something you have on your hair, I am sorry but are these sofas to sit on or just put in your house and look good, for gods sake so should we just sit on them straight with nothing in our hair and dont move an inch, i am not going to give up i am going to put up a fight!

I'm sure your house isn't a hovel, so sure they won't take that into account anyway, they just probably say that as standard patter, just in case (my other half does some work for the council every now and again, and some of the houses he has to go in, you wouldn't believe the state of unless you'd seen the photos, kim n agie territory in lots of them, hard to believe, but true) However they do gurantee for 5 yrs, so should be covered by that, but if unsure, speak with trading standards and get advice from them with how to handle the matter, as if they have more than I think it's 3 complaints against a store, they'll go in heavy handed!

We've also had crap sofas from DFS (£1800). We also had them scotchguarded but you wouldn't know it. They had removable washable covers so not sure how long the scotchguard would last after a few washes. Anyway no help to you really but we sold ours second hand after a year for £150 and bought £500 leather ones thinking if they get ruined it's 'only' £500. 3 years on they're brilliant and you don't have to plump the bloody cushions everytime you leave.

I really hate companies like this you don't seem to be able to buy anything these days that lasts more than 5 minutes. Some shops sell them 'for occasional use only' Whats all that about?

My mum has DFS sofas and they are rubbish. She has to keep replacing the zips as they are so cheep they have broken 3 times. She paid around £1000 for a 3 seeter and a chair. Would not reccomend them to anyone.

hmm i am concerned now. My house is far from a hovel, i am a cleaning freak which is possibly one of my downsides well dh thinks so anyway They will see my house for themselves but i still think it is the wrong way going about a customer complaining.

I will wait for them to come and have a look see what they say then ring trading standards and maybe see what i can do, i am so unhappy about it all now as yes it did cost us alot of money and i do have to do all the plumping up the cusions, its a very luxury sofa but i sooo wish i just brough leather from somewhere else.

We have had a problem with our dfs sofa, we have a leather one and a dipped formed in the arm, called them out and they came to fix it, it was still under guarantee. Anyway, the man that came out was so obliging and he said that if we ever have any problems they can fix most things out, including stains etc even out of gurantee and to just ring the shop. I guess it just depends on the staff at the shop.

jenkel thats good to hear, sure i just had the witch of all witches on the end of the phone when i called, I will wait for someone to call me back as they have not yet and see what happens, i must give them the benefit of the doubt whatever though first.
