Question about b/f pillows

I was thinking of getting a boppy pillow, but in all the pictures I've seen the women using them are, shall we say, trim.

My pre-pregnancy size was about a size 22 and I'm thinking that a boppy pillow may just be too small to fit snuggly round my tum.

The mothercare one looks bigger and more felxible.

Any opinions, is the boppy for models in catalogues only??? Is the mothercare one nice and firm or too squishy to offer support??

I have the super which was wonderful before and after

Bogwoppit · 02/09/2003 11:16

I used one similar to the super that Prufrock mentions.
I got it from blooming marvellous or jo jo maman.
It is great. I still use it in the car on long journeys as a pillow.
The beany filling means it'll mould to any shape. well prety much

I can't remember what size mine was (it's in the loft) but I bought a cheap and good one from Argos. It was foam and much more comfy than the expensive (and huge) bean bag one. I always worried that it would wake DS up after I'd just fed him to sleep! Probably just being over sensitive.

Pimpernel · 02/09/2003 11:51

I've got a boppy, but I didn't get on with it for breastfeeding. It didn't fit comfortably round my middle (was wearing size 16 clothes post-pregnancy). In the end I found it easier to learn to feed without the support, which was better for being out and about anyway.

I did find it very useful for dd to sit in when she was a bit wobbly though.

pie · 02/09/2003 11:57

When I b/f DD I found that I needed about 3 pillows under my arm as she just took so long to empty a breast. And if one pillow went the whole lot went and well I guess I'm just looking for something that I can grab and feed...

The super looks good, but expensive!!

About the Argos one, there isn't a good picture on their website, its it very big or a little thing?

Just read the reviews on Amazon.com...all say that if you are a larger lady you can forget it. Hahahahaha.

So far then we have 2 votes for the Grobag Super and one for Argos...

Thanks!!

Could you make one, pie? I wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult. Please ignore if you think that's a truly horrible idea!

pie · 02/09/2003 13:00

Pimpernel...if only you could see my DH laughing

I'm good at cross stich, but let me near fabric and sissor, infact just sissors, well lest just say it ain't pretty.

I have the grobag standard, and its been fab. I used it throughout the latter stages of pregnancy and it did make sleeping easier, and I've used it for b/fing since birth. In fact, I'm using it right now (the only way to b/f and type at the same time!).

Only problem -- it is so comfy for ds he gets cross when I bf him without it!

LIZS · 02/09/2003 13:17

I just used a standard v-pillow from one of those cheap bedlinen shops. Was really good prebirth to sleep on, sit up in bed, support baby and for feeding in the first few weeks. Tried one of the bean filled ones in hospital second time and didn't really get on with it - too much give - and quite cumbersome to manouevre.

ScummyMummy · 02/09/2003 13:20

I've got a V shaped cushion thingy- it was firm enough to support 2 bubs and fitted fine even though I'm far from being the sveltest of svelte things. Want a lend of it? (If it works you can keep it until the evil day that I dare to try procreation again!)

pie · 02/09/2003 13:31

Thanks for the offer Scummy, I think that I would be too afraid of getting your pillow, well you know scummy

Oh god, can you tell I have a fever???

So the question has now become to foam or to bean...

OP posts:
ScummyMummy · 02/09/2003 13:49

Am I really scary? heh heh heh heh. Must be my proximity to the evil BM. The cover is washable... and I wouldn't cry and despair if I didn't get the cushion back anyway. I do understand if you want a pristene new one though!

Anyway the offer's there if you change your mind.

Foam v bean less important than making sure it's quite firm and well-filled, methinks, so it will lift the baby up to the right position.

pupuce · 02/09/2003 14:10

I've met the Scummy - she is alllll right !
But Scummy don't start pretending about your size.... I've seen you !

Pie - I'd take her upon her offer !
