DD (19 months) loves necklaces and bracelets.

She has had a couple of cheap ones which have been much loved but have broken and so I'm after some safe ones for her.

No nice chunky wooden animal ones please. Pink and glittery and girly! Any suggestions?

gem i keep buying the cheap ones, couldnt bear it if ds broke dear ones!

TwinSetAndPearls · 02/10/2005 20:57

I take my dd to the charity shop every now and again to buy dressing up jewellery, much cheaper than claire's accessories and the ilk and usually much more interesting.

How old is she? You could always make necklaces togther, some good kits in woolies.

TwinSetAndPearls · 02/10/2005 20:57

sorry you said 19mths, probablya bit young then.

Gem13 · 02/10/2005 20:57

The problem is she was so distressed when they broke. I just want them to stand up to the constant on and off admiring.

There are sellers on ebay that do packs of necklaces for party bags it may be worth looking - although as your dd is under 3 you ahve to think about small parts and choking.

Janh · 02/10/2005 20:58

You would probably be best making your own, with thick elastic and wooden beads - dunno where you would get them from though!

bambi06 · 02/10/2005 21:00

what about scouring charity shops for cheap pretty beads that can be unthreaded and then rethreaded on thin [but strong] elastic this way she can take them off and on without breaking

TwinSetAndPearls · 02/10/2005 21:01

Great minds think alike Janh.

Some here that are quite chunky and good for hand eye co ordination and development of pincer grip.

Gem13 · 02/10/2005 21:06

I don't think they would be girly enough.

Among her first words were 'bracelet, pretty, necklace, shoes'. I have pretty much worn the same pair of Blundstone boots since 2001. I am going to have some interesting shopping years ahead!

I like the idea of charity shop necklaces. Will check them out.

Look here , Gem - lovely girlie letterbox set!

It comes with laces but you could buy stout elastic - easier for a little one to manage.

Enid · 03/10/2005 13:24

gem be careful of beads though at that age

you can get sparkly bangles from Claires or Monsoon which would be quite robust

Fennel · 03/10/2005 13:45

I think sometimes they are made with deliberately easily breakable elastic so the little darlings don't manage to strangle each other with them so easily.

in other words breakable is safer.

ScarySkribble · 03/10/2005 23:09

I would be careful with necklaces of any kind. They are best to break with pressure or have a link that comes apart. Bracelets are fine, restring them as suggested on thick elastic. Most art and craft shops sell all sorts of beads.

ScarySkribble · 03/10/2005 23:10

As Enid suggested bangles may be ideal just now.

Gem13 I'm exactly the same. Can't do high heels, love boots, trainers& don't do colour but my dd is pink daft. Funnily enough I love buying her all sorts of girly stuff in a slightly tomboy fashion, she's not got lots of frilly dresses & stuff but loads of pink trousers or wee dresses over jeans in a hippy'ish fashion ifkwim. We got lovely chunky bracelets from H&M but they are very girly, little flowers, hearts & butterflies & only about £1.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 04/10/2005 21:22

Jbck Sorry to hijack this thread (Ive posted this elsewhere to,been trying to contact you!) but I see you have just been to Playa Blanca with kiddies.

I am off there on Thurs with three kids.Is there anything on in the evenings? We are staying in a private rented villa.

Been going to Puerto Del Carmen for 12 years and never stayed at PB.Went for day when over last April but hoping lots to do with the children (6,4 and 2)

Thanks
